Trying to choose.I used to own a 955 the preupdated one and i didnt like it.They claim they fixed alot of the issues now.Im trying to decide which is best. The 955hp audio was amazing i had a 94hp the audio was good but my 955 sounded better than my browning.

If you plan to wail away on AM with the echo cranked up then just get the Galaxy. If you want a superb radio that is outstanding on SSB and darn good on AM the 955 wins hands down.

99v2 is junk. Had a brand new one for a few months. It has so many bugs in it you have to keep a can of raid sitting next to it.

I'm sorry you had problems with the v2. I have a bone stock 99v2. The only thing done to it is the frequency expansion. I have no problems with it. No drift on sideband and excellent reports on the audio. There's a couple of folks running 99v2's around my area. both of those radio's came from a radio shop that cuts the limiters out and adds the swinger diode mod. They do sound loud but its distorted and raspy, plus I get splashed from them 2 channels up and down. Those radios are so garbled on ssb it's not worth trying to talk to them. One of those v2's lost it's audio. The guy sent it back to the same shop. It's been there going on 4 months. I can't speak for the 955, but it seems everybody that has one really enjoys it.

I have a few first run 955s. Two issues cropped up over the years that the factory is addressing under warranty. A couple of bezel LEDs went out and the talkback doesn't shut off all the way.

Stryker Radios are top notch, they definitely stand by their products and care about their customers. Don't get me wrong, I like my Galaxy 99 radios, its just that I would purchase a Stryker Radio over a similarly powered Galaxy any day.

I have a 99v2 also, FAR from junk.
Never had one complaint.
I would like to have the 955 to give it a try.
I probably shouldn't judge ALL v2's by mine. The one I had performed lousy in tempatures under 30' degrees. I know, some will say electronics will act crazy in cold tempature and its normal. I don't buy that theory. The thing is all my radios have acted normal in cold temps except the Galaxy 99v2. The roger beep malfunctions in cold tempatures. the modulation lamp glows in cold weather even when not transmitting until it warms up. The meter malfunctions until warmed up and it had other issues too. All cold weather related. I didn't bother to send it back just boxed it up. Been down that road before. A new radio should not have these problems. I feel Personally mine was junk. Not saying they all are junk but my one Galaxy experience is enough that I'll not buy another one. I'll say this though, Galaxy service center seams to be top notch. The few times I spoke with them on the phone they were always ready to help. Mine was brand new in the box and it came with a broke knob. They sent new knobs no questions asked. As far as the other issues I didn't find those until winter time. That's when the real Galaxy showed its ugly face. a new radio shouldn't have all those issues right out of the box and need any kind of repair if QC is doing its job. I never sent it back for repair. I just wrote it up as a loss and bought a better radio.

Any Galaxy Export will act funny and drift like a sail boat if you live in a winter weather part of the country and run the radio in a mobile. The best you can hope for is to warm your car up good and it will get some what better.

As an example a local tow truck driver ran a Galaxy 98VHP for about 6 months. At that time we were all running SSB at night. During the winter when his truck was warm he could talk to us right up to him pulling up on a run and sounded great. Then after his truck door being open and the cold getting to the radio 15 minutes later he would key up and be way off. It used to drive him nuts. He sold the radio and went back to an RCI 2970 and never had a bit of trouble winter or summer.

I recently purchased the Stryker 955 and it's a great radio.. If I had to choose, I would definetly get the Stryker over the 99v2.. You will not be disappointed with the radio, great on am and ssb as well.
