A Ham I Am

Hey Riverman, Aim high and tell her you want both radios plus a new computer to control them with. If you don't get hit with a rolling pin you might have a chance.

Am thinking I oughta just get a 7851, 5000MD, or a 990S and be done with it. Any of the three would look great on my Workmate in the garage hooked to my attic endfed. :D

Don't forget if you spend up to $10,000 on a radio, you need to spend a minimum of $30,000 on a complete antenna system.

A complete Step IR DB42 Monstir Pro Yagi system with 80m dipole option and a crankup tower should get you there!

:ROFLMAO:
I talked to someone the other night who was running a Monstir Pro Yagi, one KW, and was talking on a Flex.
I was running 10 watts at the time. :)
He was a nice fellow.

I like it better than my Icom. The Kenwood has 2 selectable NR's. NR1 is for typically used for voice modes. NR2 is a narrower passband and is suited for CW and digital modes.

Any NR will sound watery when adjusted to it's full level but I think the Kenwood works best around a 1/3 of the way up.

It also has to NB's (noise blankers) which are both fully adjustable and now can be used simultaneously. This seems to just about rid the noise on 40m that was coming thru from some dirty interference in my neighborhood by using both NB's together.

FSB,
Would you PM me, please?
Am unable to initiate one on this end.
Thanks!

You should be able to click on a user's profile pic on the left margin and in the window that pops up click on "START A CONVERSATION". That is how to initiate a PM.

Works on you. Not on him. The option is not there.
When I try the other way it says I have "insufficient privileges". (n)
I think he has me blocked. :D

If it works for me and not him then you may be right about the blocking. Generally it should either work or not and not be selective on who it works for. FWIW I can start a conversion with him so it must be as you suggest.

I'd block me, too! :ROFLMAO:

Forget the catfish compromise...Remember, you can always tune a radio, but you can't tuna fish.....Plagiarised from REO

:ROFLMAO:
Right you are!
However, my pathway is led by confusion boats, mutiny from stern to bow. (borrowed from Bob)

This thread has covered music, family, philosophy, pop culture, etc. "You can tune a piano, but you can't tunafish". "My Back Pages" written by Dylan (Zimmerman) but really made famous by the Byrds. I'll add: better to be a ham than a turkey!

Congrats, Riverman. Enjoy this hobby. That's what it is for.

Good catch on the lyrics!

Well. . . A Ham I Was.
(Guess I still am one since my license doesn’t expire for years), but I have boxed up all my ham stuff and now reside on 11 meters where I’ve been spending all my time lately. Grew tired of exchanging call signs and signal reports and putting pins in the map on the wall. Have a nice group of locals who gather every night and shoot the bull, and skip is beginning to roll in more and more. Feel like I’ve returned home after many years away. :D
