access to 4 sale section

the reason to require a minimum post count for access the the "4 sale" section is the trust factor.

personally, i would never buy something from someone who just joined the forum simply because i dont know whether or not im being scammed.

anyone can go on ebay and find out that a NIB Cobra 2000GTL might go for over $500.00, then come straight here and post that they have one for sale.

someone here REALLY wants one and mails off a postal MO or whatever form of payment only to find out that they were dealing with a scammer.
either they receive an old POS radio or dont receive anything at all.

they guys on here im comfortable buying things from have been here for a couple of years, and im willing to take the risk that they didnt spend that two years posting just so they could make a quick buck off of a sucker.

i believe that the post count for access should be 100+.
if people who just happened upon a radio related item wish to sell it; ebay and craigslist are the places to go.

to me it raises red flags when someone happens upon this site and wants to sell something here rather than the places i mentioned where the buyer might have some recourse should the deal go sour.

Forget for a minute that I am an admin here. This is just my personal opinion and has nothing to do with this forum. How can one gain trust by racking up 20, 40, or even 50 posts in a matter of days? I just banned a member yesterday that was here for a year and had nearly 100 posts. Why was he banned? Out of no where he spammed the forum with porn. He was seemingly a decent member and did not have any run ins with anyone that I am aware of to set him off unless it was all via PM's and that's not likely considering what has been posted in the open before. Again, my own personal opinion, but how does one gain credibility based on number of posts when those posts could be made in a matter of days?

Good point. I would imagine what everyone means is you need to hang around a while so everyone could "get to know you" so to speak.
I myself would be skeptical of someone who joined today and started posting like a mad man to reach whatever the post count for selling was then listed some stuff.
But then on the other hand, what if he is just trying to catch up on adding his opinions or knowledge to existing threads?
Crap! No easy answers either way, huh?

As far as the yearlong member spamming the forum with porn are you sure his account didn't get hacked or hijacked? Wouldn't be the first time that has happened.

OK Boot Monster, perhaps I'm being a bit 'devils advocate' on this.

I can honestly see and respect all the reasons for 'getting to know' someone before 'dealing' with them but that can be done after you've found out that they've got something that you want. ...How well do you know an eBay seller before bidding?

If someone has gone to the trouble of finding and joining a forum of people with specialist interest in an item that they have got rather than just sticking it on eBay and letting it go to someone who might not appreciate it so much then perhaps they deserve a little more..........consideration and respect are the wrong words..... but I think you know what I mean.

I was certainly not taking it personally, please don't think that. With regard to my use of the words 'consideration and respect' I was not infering or implying anything; I simply could not think of any other way of putting it.

When all is said and done; I'm the new boy to the forum, it's your ball and I'm playing in your park. I fully expect to play to your rules. As I stated right at the start, I belong to other forums with similar conditions.

As you said it is pure circumstance that the debate about privilages had started just as I came through the gates and I threw in a counter argument. Probably because I felt that it could affect my reason for joining but probably equaly because that's me.

What ever the outcome I certainly seem to have put the cat among the pidgeons.

There are folks who've been here for years and have over a thousand posts and they break the rules all the time and still haven't learned how to behave properly. So I guess it's all good. well....at least the staffers will tell you it is
