Adjustments for resonance

Here is the picture of the Mount and whip adjuster. The readings may be a little bit different because I’m doing it at a different location. I was in a middle of a field nothing around me. Even in the area that I’m at now everything seems to be really good. I used it yesterday and all of my reports were crystal clear. I was even getting through some of the heavy traffic from Texas to Central Florida yesterday. The guy said I can’t believe you punch through all that noise

One last thing to do and I’m not doing it till I get home is get that cover put back on the bed Capt don’t have the tools to do it here. Got to do it as soon as I get home

I didn't want to spoil the thread but this...

I was even getting through some of the heavy traffic from Texas to Central Florida yesterday. The guy said I can’t believe you punch through all that noise

Have to add, no matter the finest equipment and biggest power you can throw at your system to put yourself out there...

All of it means squat if you don't give the antenna what it needs...

Great thread - many lessons about resonance...

Stage 3 realize that reflected power at "resonance" is reflected because the circuit isn't resonant. Return to stage 1 and stay there.

My stage 3 was different, namely, realize that neither VSWR or resonance necessarily gets you to peak output power, experiment with field strength meters, then spectrum analyzers, and now a two port VNA with a second antenna hooked up to receive remote signals.

What I really want is a remote-reading field-strength meter that's a mile away. I'd much rather measure what it hears from that distance along with the inline coax measurements.

I would love to have something like this. Actually, I wonder how hard it would be to put a spectrum analyzer hooked to an antenna to a twitch stream or something as a means of letting people tune antennas and such for local outputs, or perhaps confirming changes in their systems like amplifiers are working like they think they should. Those who know what they are doing could also tell if their signal is within the channel limits and not splattering across the band... I think that is a good idea... What do you guys think, if a remote receiving source was set up in your areas, would you use it to test and tune antennas?

EDIT: It could also be a way to let locals find each other to chat with, which can be a good or bad thing as this would let troublemakers find people to cause trouble with as well...

I think you two are beyond stage 3, and I'm not even certain I want to fiddle with the next step. It seems like massively diminished returns for the effort in most situations. That doesn't mean I wouldn't play with a remote receiver if someone else put their effort into installing it.

Analyzer is hooked up in the cab of the truck where it plugs into the radio. I did try a shorter piece of coax at the antenna. Same results. It’s the same mount I started with I just replaced it with the one that does not have a short in it. The mount measures 3 inches from the top of the plate where the antenna screws in and it was 3 inches below the mount. So from coax to antenna mount is exactly 6 inches. The Geotool mount didn’t fit. Really nice smell I wish I could’ve used it
I have a similar hook-up except I have a 4-1/4" stainless steel spring. I removed the two set-screws from feral, removed the whip and trimmed the bottom to obtain an acceptable SWR. Total measurement from the top of the bed rail to the top of the whip is 108".

PS: I attached a ground wire at the underside of the stake pocket mount, down thru the stake pocket and attached it to a factory ground bolt under the cab because I think there may be some type of isolator between the bottom of the bed and the frame.
