aluminum welding

i have managed to completely take apart the base of the old super maggie. it looks like i should be able to replace the entire section of pipe. it is 1 1/8" outer diameter and 1" inner diameter. i am amazed at the tight fit of the pipes. the bolt at the top is a rubber seal to keep water out. thanks to everyone for helping me think through the process and get this done right. i will have some pics uploaded tomorrow for all interested in the inners of the m117 super magnum.
 
i would take a piece of wooden dowel tap it out thread it slide it inside glue it to the larger piece and thread it back on. of course clean up the jagged edges.
