That one was probably built in the 90's. Other than the obvious missing transistors other parts have been added and removed.

Thats like saying Cobra is responsible for bad soldering in a radio thats been worked on by a dozen CB shops.

If it's base, go with a tube amp for a cleaner signal. If it's mobile, go with Texas Star or RM Italy since they have bias and will sound good on SSB. Most of the "aftermarket" amps like Xforce and Dave made are not linears, they are just class C amplifiers and sound somewhat lousy on SSB as a result.

He does good work and doesn't talk much. I like the guy. I have a tube amp that he built and a first generation shockwave antenna.

That's a Davemade Box alright...But the seller even says it has a "Bran New Circuit board installed"... So technically, the ONLY thing that is a Davemade, is the Cabinet! ... can't really say that's a Davemade, when the only thing DM is the box!

People on E-Bay are nuts, only a fool would drop 5 bills on that mess. And then you will have to spend another 500-600 on the finals for it. If it even works.

Best bet is to get a basket case SB-220 cheap. Long as the transformers are good send it out for a CB "work up" buy a pro. As BBI shows they do 2KW plus when done right.

The 500s at $800 or so AND the 80A draw is a whole other world from where I now sit.

But at least it’s the right path for the eventual home base HF rig.

Got sidetracked on eHam (happens a lot) and was reading about Hy-Gain antennas. Whammo #2.
