Analog TV is OFF (almost)

Well, I saw it live, the screens all went blue at midnight last night as the big broadcasters turned off their analog transmissions, except our NBC channel 11 affiliate, which is still on!

Now we get to struggle with lower-than-normal/auxilliary stations until they get all the kinks worked out.

Don't forget to rescan for the new channel allocations...

Well, one thing, I managed to get some spectrum plots before and after the signals went dead...you can still see channel 11...

Here is the range of 54 to 216 with the analog stations still broadcasting and with them off.

You can see the FM broadcast band there too...

Here is the VHF low band, 54 to 88 MHz on and off...

OK, one more of the VHF high band, 174 to 216 on and off. Again, channel 11 is still on...

This was ALL done...
Not so us people will get better tv signal/picture ..

Rather..
So they can use less spectrum and re-allocate the abandoned frequency's...both to various emergency services and or sell off the now vacated frequency's / spectrum ..

I think the Gov. has made a big mistake going digital. We had a bad t-storm with possible tornadoes in the area and we were watching minute to minute up-dates when guess what happen to the digital signal.......
That's right, gone. As you guys know digital is ether on or off, there is no in between.

Low VHF is not left unused. ABC had a company mandate to go back to their low band frequencies with the new digital xmitters.

There aren't too many but low V is still lit up with television signals. Something like 2 dozen across the USA IIRC.
