Antenna for camping...

I worked a portable set up at a scout camp. He was running a coax fed 40 meter dipole, fed with coax. He was making good contacts all the way up to 10 meter. He had made some contacts on 20 meter. All with the TS2000's internal tuner no less.

Wow i cant get my ts-2000 to tune a 40meter antenna down to any thing but 40

I removed the 50ohm coax from my comptessed 80meter antenna and ran 300ohm to it to the 4:1 balun on my MFJ-949B tuner and i can tune every thing but 30 and 60 meters. And made contats on 80 40 20 15 and 10. It is working good so next year ill have a 40 fed with 300 ohm. .

Also, the TS-2000's max SWR tuning range is 10:1, so you can't expect miracles.

That's pretty darned good for an internal tuner. Most of the internal tuners that I see are good for about 3:1 (my FTdx3000 included). I'm glad I have a Palstar. :)

And I'm in the same boat as you... compromised antennas.
