Just discovered your group. Was a general class ham 40 years ago.Now retired,swl'ing with a Hammarlund HQ-145.Put up an 80 meter half square and an 80 meter loop antenna.Question is what is best height for these? On ham forums their concern is for transmitting.The half square is 25 feet up and the loop is 25 to 30 feet up. Thanks,Ray

the standard "as high as possible" applies,............. 1/2 wl or higher if possible.
depends on what you want to hear and what band,.... you may want to mount the loop even lower than the 30 feet,............. the signal strength will fall, but so will the noise, its all about SNR.

For receiving only it will vary with propagation. A lower antenna can have a better signal to noise ratio or it may not hear as well as a high antenna in some situations. Too many variables to give you a straight answer. I say give it a try and see what happens.
Depends on the angle the signal arrives. Low angle - a ground mounted will rec. it
better than one in the nose bleed section.
