When my wilson 5000 was getting water in the coil, it would fill up the antenna socket. I gooped up the whole thing including center pin to keep water out. It didn't seem to hurt swr or anything, but I wasn't running any power either. Normally I will just put some on the threads. I use the clear permatex silicone dielectric grease.
