What would be the best antenna to run on an Icom ic 7000? This radio will be used in my duce and a half, my pick up truck, and a base station. i would like to kow what antennas would work best in all situations listed.

The best antenna to use with your IC-7000 on your truck would be the one that covers the bands you want to use and that can be mounted on your truck. Substitute "house" for "truck" and the same thing applies. A little more information will be needed to make any specific recommendations, and then you will start running into personal preferences of those who answer you (me included). So, what are you intending?

Well i asked to get personal preferences. I am looking for an antenna that would cover all bands the Ic7000 has. I will mainly be using 2 meter and hf, but would like to have the other bands usable if possible. I have had my ham license for a cuple of years and have been running on the 10 meter band. I am now disabled and look to be doing a lot more with the ham radio.
I would like to hear what eveyone is running and what bands their antennas cover .

You're going to need more than one antenna to cover 160m-73cm at each location. Two antennas should do it. For mobile HF, I personally prefer the HI-Q antennas, although there are other makers that offer good products. For VHF/UHF, any basic VHF/UHF antenna will work. I use the Comet CA-2x4SR because I need a broadband antenna for MARS frequencies. There are other VHF/UHF antennas with more gain, though. Even a basic 2m/440 1/4 wave antenna works fine.

For the house, the same deal applies, although you have a lot more antenna choices. Are you planning on a tower for the house or some other type of mounting system?

My Wilson 5000 antenna tunes Okay 10m-20m tho on 20m its like a rubber duck with iCom IC-7000
2m is just a simple 5/8 wave don't use or need 440.

can't wait to see more reply's to this thread good luck 73s

You would need two antenna as a very minimum to operate all bands the IC-7000 covers and even then each antenna will be a compromise. Any antenna that covers more than a couple bands is a trade-off between performance and convenience. You can get multiband dipoles that will cover 160-10m and a vertical that will cover 6m'2m/70cm. One of the best and cheapest all band HF antennas is the 80m doublet. It is a dipole with each leg about 66 feet long and fed with ladder line and a tuner. That is what I am using now until I can continue the antenna and tower project in the spring. It works well for what it is.

I met a guy this weekend who is using a diamond quad band antenna. From what I am reading this will greatly reduce the performance of the radio. I have had my license for 2 years, but just now really getting into ham, so ANY help you guys can give me will be used. I just became disabled casue of cancer, and will have a lot of time on my hands.
