The Wife and I were amble to do our first trip of the season last week with our little trailer since parks are now open in Ontario. Was a good weekend but hot as hell, glad we have a generator to run ac when needed, also got to tow with the new to me ford 150 5.0. We used to use a tent but getting older and my back dont like to be on the ground anymore.

Slo , what a setup ! Would I expect less ? (y):) I started in a 2 person tent ( Tiny ) on my HD , then a Slide in for our truck , then a 36' " Winnie " . Now thinking back to the Slide in for my truck , Small ( but PIA when on ) & you use your truck . I loved going to the Ocean w/it in the Winter on the Beach fishing . But then started looking @ Bumper Pulls , My wife's New Expy pulls the horse trailer fine & I can use my Lariat to pull the trailer . Still up in the Air on my decision ! But if a cheap deal comes along ... it might seal the deal either way ! Stay Healthy & Safe ! 73 & God Bless ! Leo

Thx

Fully Independent Suspension Expedition the better tow vehicle. Stability.

My trailer brand ceased years ago along with a few other top drawer types. Bottom-feeder Airstream survived as it was bought as prestige brand for Thor RV.

Highly recommend the type. The design is so far superior there is no comparison for stable towing. Can use car or minivan or SUV as the better choice TV. (Solo use is what matters for touring).

Indefinite lifespan. My folks had theirs 30-years. It’s still on road 16-years later. (I saw 46 of the 48 before college. Mexico and Canada as well. My folks loved to travel this way).

An AS 10+ yrs old is still new. But depreciation bottomed out. All about condition. Value goes up after that.

Conventional square boxes in landfill by then. Or ready. Use a moisture meter with probe to check wall-floor joint.

Decent site for most things. PM me for specific questions.

28’ length approx is sweet spot size for extended travel. Shorter gets higher price because people fearful of length. Zero reason for shorter.

AS 34’ tridem axle the easiest one to tow (mines a 35).

I’d stay with 1996 or later AS. Plan means how long to keep in use. Get that number and the rest is easy.

See HAM RADIO IN AIRSTREAM thread. Been going for years.

(And don’t admit to knowing me, ha!)

An easy towing rig like the OPs means plenty more of those great pics. Camping means some extra clothes and good food. No complications. Just GO!!

But where’s the shack?

Hardside A-frame popup is (IMO) the best of the type. Easy to pull, adequate capacities & furnishings, easy to store & long-lasting.

I was the mountain backpacker once.

The type you have is SURELY the thing to come home to after a trek.
Everything necessary & nothing superfluous.

Towing, they are invisible to eyes alert to trouble-patterns. Past tires too old, I don’t see them in stupid situations. Not sure I’ve a greater complement than that.

CAN AM RV in London, ON is a renowned towing specialist. Stop off to get the TUSON trailer-mounted electronic anti-sway. Faster and more effective than Detroit OEM (if the Ford without).

New Bilstein 4600 shocks on the pickup. Replace FF/RR Anti-Roll Bar rubber bushings with polyurethane. 40-miles or 40,000. I wouldn’t get home from a dealership without those two done.

So, the shack is in the . . . ?

(Mines in different cabinets. Do I have to connect them and power up to claim, it’s a shack, Jack!).

And it’s gonna be a Delta Loop

(For anyone):

Right into the 1980s (pre-1960) a campground CB Radio was a necessity. TV didn’t exist. Just a little organized socializing was part of the fun.

I bought a circa 1975 ROBYN to serve as mine. A MIDLAND on-glass antenna serves the purpose. BC20 Uniden speaker I plan to replace with a pair of Kenwood public service types (exterior wall jack besides indoors.

TV (tow vehicle) to TT (travel trailer) to handheld covers most everything CB is best at doing.

At the other end of the same shelf over the large starboard window is a MIDLAND Weather Radio with external on-glass antenna plus strobe lamp aimed outside.

My trailer old enough that telephone hardline is routed. A Western Electric desk model is stored, as is extra coax (never know. I expect it’ll be useful again). Bell System outdoor ringer to be sourced.

And (same project type as above) an electric LIT doorbell actually beats having people knock. Two-way comms & camera mean they don’t know exactly where you are.

Rigging the running lamps to operate while parked a good nightlight for visitors. And unwanted ones later to show up in relief.

Those are the fun electrical projects past dutiful install of CO & Propane & Smoke Detectors.

Slo , Wife got a new Expedition a while back . We haven't towed the Horse Trailer w/it yet . ( My fault still doing work on trailer ) but I must say , on mine anyway hit a button in the " Expy " it's ready to tow ! How's yours ? Mine is the one like a School Bus , " EL " I think WB is 2-3"s shorter than my Lariat PU ! Myself I love Air Streams ! Ever seen the slide in for a PU Truck ? Ugly but  as :censored: ! I can't find one on the East coast ! Stay Healthy & Safe ! 73 & God Bless ! Leo

The a frame is our first go at Trailers, we picked the a-frame for ease of set up and not having to deal with wet canvas if raining on a standard pop up, and gives great rear viability when towing. The f150 I picked up in December has the 5.0 6 speed which is a smooth motor but the 3.55 gears just dont cut it for me, plan to install 4.10's as soon as I have the extra coin. My old 08 sierra 4.8 4 speed with 4.11 was decent at towing the a frame and only ran KYB gas a just shocks, firm ride but I like it. Poly bushings sound like a good Idea. Wife will not have a radio in the camper, Ran a radio in my sierra with a wilson 5000, but thinking of ideas to mount wilson on the aluminum f150. Thanks for all the info Slowmover enjoy the camping season.
