Anyone Else Experiencing This?

It’s climate change effect on western forests.
But only south of the Canadian border.

Heads up, as Union Pacific and BNSF aren’t taking ship orders from West Coast now. A line is being crossed.

.

REALLY? Please explain why my relatives in British Columbia have been experiencing drastic weather changes for the past few decades then. You seem to be insinuating it is merely a political stunt with the "only south of the Canadian border" statement. Regardless of the reason........it IS changing. Weather here on the east coast of Canada is NOTHING like it was when I was a kid 40-50 years ago. NOTHING.

Captian, I won't get into politics here in this part in the forum.

I will say that I have lived in CA for over 60 years and weather has changed, I don't care who or what has caused it, but the fact is it has changed.

It has not only changed here, but across the US.

We have always had wildfires out here, but the immense scope of what we deal with now is unprecedented.
We have been evacuated 3 times in the last 8 years and on evacuation alert almost every year now, and it's not just CA.

It is hard to look at what is happening across the globe and not realize that our planet is changing, not ,just for us on the west coast here, but for all of us.

Just being sarcastic Jeff. In my 57 years on this planet I have seen BIG changes to the weather here on the east coast. Winters are not as cold. Snow that stays on the ground used to fall in November during deer season and it would STAY until spring. Now we almost never have a white Christmas. What snow we get comes and goes all winter. WE get far more storms that start as snow and end in rain that ever before. Temperatures are no where near as cold in winter but are a lot hotter in summer now. I would have NEVER bought a heat pump if things were like they used to be. Off-shore water temperatures have been increasing steadily. Things are indeed changing and anyone that says they are not is blind, stupid, or simply ignorant to the facts. Then again there is a certain sector or the population that rejects all science and simply believes whatever some so-called charismatic person tells them to believe. I am not that type. I have my own brain and I do know how to use. :D I can't imagine living under the conditions you have been the last several years and fully understand the desire to stay put. Stay safe my friend.

Capitan, I knew what you ment.
No worries.
I agree with your thoughts on this one.
I don't care what side of the fence anyone is on there are events happening all over the globe that make it clear that our environment is changing.
Ice sheets around the poles are losing mass.
Places are losing permafrost and thawing out that have never before.
The world is recording record temps.
Weather patterns are changing, much more than they have in cycles before.
People say " we had to deal with the polar vortex last year, your nuts of you think global warming is real"
Global warming is driving the weather patterns causing these swings in weather.
My point is that if you look at the world as a whole things are changing.

Prayers to you California folks as here in the panhandle we don't know what it's like with big fires like that. We've also been seeing that tripy through the smoke sun, almost like it's daylight without direct sunlight. This picture below is at around 2 o'clock p.m. here in the Texas panhandle, it's a little eerieView attachment 40305
Seeing the sun filtered reminded me of the solar eclipse of about 3 years ago.
The sun as seen from Earth has an apparent diameter almost the same as the moon, which is why we occasionally see these eclipses.

Finally officially moved to the AZ mountains in late May. Was looking at the possibility of evacuation due to wildfire in late Jun/early July. Our neighbors had previously survived the Paradise fire, they were looking a little nervous. We were extremely fortunate in that the fire crews were able to contain the fire a bit to the south of town. 5th largest wildfire in state history, because someone's car caught fire on the side of the road.

What's happening right now in California is horrible. But the people out deliberately lighting fires? As far as I'm concerned they're monsters in human skin.

Not to spoil the party, but this is an update for the "Journal"

Great News! - found Blue skies today!

Cold Canadian air came rushing in to clear out the haze and smoke - although the Fires are still ongoing, the typical northern climes' blue skies have returned and with a tinge of Fall and if not mistaken, a scent of "snow" - extremely dry artic air mixing in with it.

Here's some of the "raw data" pics from those days of "haze"...

Last one, the Sun is not in the picture, but it's the same region of the sky as the first two,

So thankfully the Haze was only temporary, but I'm sure it will return.

Thanks to all whom helped.

Forums are about the free exchange of ideas and I have seen nothing personally disrespectful to anyone. Sometimes a post will take other directions for the free exchange of opinions and ideas. This is not a university where free expression is to be squelched. Forums are about throwing ideas and opinions around and locking a thread due to not agreeing with those opinions differ than ones own has caused more than one forum to become dead as people flee to other more open minded forums. Not one exchange on this thread has been disrespectful other than ones ideology not matching another's.

This specific forum is named:
Announcements & "Open" Forum

That simply means miscellaneous topics. It does not mean anything and everything goes. Even in a world of "free speech" internet forums have the RIGHT to censor and delete. Nuff said on this.

I think they call it, Citizen Band
Sorry Slowmover...CB would be the last band I would use.

Safety of Life and Property
First and foremost, in a situation involving the immediate safety of life and/or the immediate protection of property, and where no normal means of communication are available, the rules permit amateurs to use any means to send essential information [97.403]. This rule is straightforward and needs little interpretation. If someone's life or property is immediately threatened and no telephone is available, the last thing you want to do is waste precious time worrying about government regulations. But, be prepared in the aftermath of an incident to justify your action in a possible FCC or local law enforcement inquiry. If other means of communication such as an emergency call box telephone or public communication system are available, they should be used first, before "anything goes."

Stations in Distress
Another FCC rule states that "an amateur station in distress [is not prohibited from using] any means at its disposal to attract attention, make known its condition and location, and obtain assistance" [97.405(a)]. Also, it states that an amateur station may use any means of radio communication at its disposal to assist another station in distress.

With many VHF/UHF options which are certainly easier/smaller equipment/antennas and power requirements to operate or even mobile/portable HF for that matter(greater distance) that would certainly be a better option or choice than CB...IMHO
All the Best
