The ARRL Handbook has a rectangular full-wave loop antenna in it with particular dimensions. The sides are twice the length of the top and bottom (vertical loop). The input impedance works out to being very close to 50 ohms, and it's directional. I realize it wouldn't be the "biggest" or 'badest" of antennas, but it looks very simple to make. If so, what did you think about it?
