Anyone use a dash cam?

Been thinking about installing a continuous loop dash cam in the truck. I have been looking at a lot of them online the last few days.Getting fed up with assholes that don't know how to drive or care about their driving. Last week I had some idiot pull out in front of me while passing a car that I was already passing and then start jamming the brakes on in front of me daring me to rear end him while giving me the finger. It was his fault I almost ran over him as all I saw over the hood was a little red streak as he whipped out and damn near clipped my right front fender. He came up in the right lane on a divided highway. Must have had a death wish is all I can say. I said to the wife that if I hit the the SOB I plan to punch the gas and not the brakes so hold on. She looked at me in utter disbelief and then I flipped the switch to 4WD and slipped the transmission into manual shift mode and convinced her. A 5.7 liter 2012 Toyota Tundra CrewMax versus a mid 2000's VW Jetta........... No contest.

I believe assured clear distance is the norm in all 50 states.

I'd like to have a dash cam. I think everyone in Russia has one. I've been seeing a bunch of Russian dash cam footage lately.

When you drive as many miles per year as I do, you see alot of stupid. So much stupid that I have often considered getting a dash cam and starting a website dedicated to stupid things people do with their multi thousand dollar, multi ton vehicles.

Most people think that is the case 100% of the time including the screaming irate father of the girl I hit from behind totaling both vehicles several years ago but not so. She ran a yield sign at high speed at an intersection with a right turn merge lane and by the time she checked for traffic she had to look over her shoulder behind her instead of sideways. Too late as I was already in the intersection when she zoomed in and slammed on the brakes after she zoomed in front of me. The only thing that prevented me from being found in in the wrong was the fact she blew a yield sign. Come to find out it was the second total for her in a year.....both her fault.

Yeah......... I want a dash cam.

Being a victim of road rage is no fun at all. First hand experience. You never know what will set someone off. Remain calm and keep your cool and you will out smart them when they are raging. I was in St. martin, and a man beeped the horn once behind this woman about 30-35 she got out walked back to his car in her skirt and heels,opened his door and beat him silly for a full minute and a half while his girl and another couple in the back seat watched. After it was over my 19 year old son laughed his ass off and said don't beep the horn in St Martin EVER!!!!!! I added lock your doors.

Only if you do something stupid. That might be the day after I took the SD card out of the dash cam to use in my computer so the kids could copy tbeir project to take to school.

Seriously tho there is a difference in doing something when you know you are being recorded versus not. The benefits far outweigh the problems. It would be good for when the kids take the vehicle too as it records inside audio as well as GPS location and speed.

One might argue that your chances of ever needing it are going to be very slim. But think how much one wrongful death lawsuit would cost you compared to the cost of the camera. I haven't put any real time into researching brands of cameras, but if you are serious about it, I would say go for it. Those camera systems are as cheap as $100 up to many thousands. A lost lawsuit can be lost more.
