I hate to say it but the cost of a new qt-40 or aries-II may be less than repair labor by someone with tools and skill for smd work if it is more than blown finals. If the chip that keys the radio off of the mic input is damaged the radio will be unrepairable for reasonable cost.
QT-40 was $160 for a while, but back up to $200 now. My bench rate per hour, is more than half the cost of a new radio. Yeah, I'm not cheap, nor are shipping costs. But, you get what you pay for.
