Anytone AT-5555N II (version 2). AM modulation swing and or SSB safe power output adjustment

I put on my seatbelt, mask and rubber gloves and accessed the Service Menu (Safety First) by holding in the Menu & Mode buttons. Let go as soon as you power it up, then hit each button next to them moving down the line starting with DW. That will land you in the Service Menu. You should see FM on the screen (factory menu) and be able to scroll thru each menu item with the channel selector. I only wanted to modify my AM mode settings, so scrolled to #16 (AM Hi Pwr) and #17 (AM Lo Pwr). WRITE DOWN THE VALUES OF ANY MENU ITEM BEFORE MAKING CHANGES) >> Hold the mic key in and rotate the Channel Selector to change the value<< I tinkered with #17 a bit to bring my Dead Key down to 2 watts. Watch your external Watt Meter to see the changes. I set my Low Dead Key at 2 watts with the power button all the way down. I then then set #16 high power to 4 watts with the power button turned all the way up. That way, I won't accidently blow that first pill in my 1x4 amp. A friend of mine had his 5555nII done up by a qualified service tech (no name mentioned) and his Bird RMS swing was much better then mine, so he checked his Service Menu Modulation settings, #19 & #20 and found their values set for all zeroes. I took a chance (wrote down my values) and reset mine the same way. Holy Schmoly!... Now, even at low power, my RMS swing is double what it was and it drives my 1x4 amp beautifully. I looked at the waveform on my scope using a 1khz tone and it looks good with no flat topping or splattering, so I was happy. The only other service menu item i tinkered with was #52 (AM RF Gain) and got it set the way I like so strong signals do not overload my front end and i still hear far off stations without all the hiss and heterodyne. Shout out to Panic Attack for his input on this site about the Service Menu and 352 for his assistance with the Menu settings.

Eldorado828 was simply saying what a great many of us feel and that is some people are too lazy these days to take a few seconds to perform a simple search for existing information. He is a standout member and standup guy and was not “boning” as you say. Rather, just stating a fact.

Setting to all 0's indeed seems to work well, my Hi setting was 162 and Low setting was 154. As everyone else says, write down original settings for good measure, thanks for the info Kc4eoe.

I found the service mode entry procedure, Thank you kc4eoe, and with a good scope and other gear, am going to "look" first at my new AT 5555N II coming in today. The following is submitted, maybe duplicate from an earlier post, but, here it is again. Any comments as to the confirmation of applicability to the AT 5555N II model will be appreciated, BEFORE I may tune.... The values are from an unknown source radio, but, may give some idea to what you may see....

What is your #12 FM Mod set on, I think I accidently changed mine it is on 0025 now

For that item, you are lucky as it has a default value of 00250. Most other items do not have a default value. Be careful, and it goes without saying to keep out if you don't have the required test equipment!

FYI, for this item, 00250 relates to approximately 2.5kHz of FM deviation. As a general rule, a setting up to 00300 will be OK. But don't go over 00300.

From what I can remember, when the key is pressed checking the settings, the transmitter IS transmitting, SO, make sure to have a dummy load/antenna connected....

now I need some very important info .I have my AT-500M11 CB radio. I need to boost modulation just like the AT-500M and lower dead key for my KL503 box can any one help me, can't seem to be able to find service menue like the AT-500M

I had a hard time finding that radio online until I realized it's AT-500M2 you have. If you're looking for info online about that radio it would help to enter the model number as I wrote it. Google doesn't see the 11 as ii or 2 so you'll get no results.

    So I have a cobra 138xlr and the meter dose not work... It dose not key up and signal dose not work.... It is not stuck it the meter moves freely. now wires are resoldered on both ends...So now that do I look at. Could it be a diode or a transistor?
