Anytone AT-6666 with Heil PR781

I would not use that element to compete with something as high and mighty as a U-87. The U-87 is the GOLD STANDARD anyone that knows this would not even try to compete with a craptastic Digikey Chinese made electret! LOL There is a reason why they are a $3200 mic. You can rent one that has been passed around more than a Ukrainian hooker for $110 a week just for the mic. You know it is easy to call a wind bags bluff when they will not put their money where there mouth is. Good think I did not mention playing for pink slips or he would really get scared and have to attempt to assassinate my character! CNN much? LOL Maybe Newsweek is more your standard which is to say no standards at all! LOL

You can afford to use a $3200 mic for a 2 way radio but you can not put up or shut up? LOL Since I am in my 40's that is what we would call in "Old School Parlance" being punked! LOL

I have nothing to do with Scott, rabiporkchop, or Harddrive at all I have not given him any money at all or used his services. I am open to trying harddrives services. That said I would also trust him to evaluate a mic on a radio and record it and map out it's actual curve in use. He is a neutral 3rd party that has experience in this area of radio tuning/audio tuning.

I think your just ticked off someone is calling your bluff about using a U-87 for two way radio. I have no doubt that you own one only that it is a waste on a 2 way radio! Even if it is a $8K-$14K radio it does no good if the people at the other end can not make use of the fidelity your are pumping out. If the radio is using it all you are at the very least wasting a lot of power on an excessively wide bandwidth that is criminal for an amateur radio operator to do!

That makes perfect sense since the goal of non-broadcast two way radio communications is to be heard and understood as far away as possible witht he least amount of power possible. Most amateurs are against eSSB and such. They want nice broadcast sound but not at the cost of deteriorating band conditions. On top of that most of them are not doing it mobile and they can legally use a lot of power. The second your are mobile and QRP hi-fi goes out the window and it also does when contesting and trying to break a pile-up!

If I wanted to be in talk radio I am sure it wold not be that hard to do! Not all of us need to play talk radio host! LOL....Some people just want to show off the size of their bank account not their own personal skill, knowledge, creativity or electronic prowess! Anyone can toss money at a problem! Not all of us want to waste power on low bass. World is full of people with lots of money and no skill we see it in aviation, shooting sports, racing, radio hobby, audiophile world, car restoration world etc........Guys in the radio hobby that just toss money at their hobby are like Mall Ninja's with all the expensive tactical gear and custom AR's that still can not hit the 10 Ring or the guy with $10K in his BR rifle and all his Sinclair reloading gear but again cannot win a match to save his life! Sadly since it takes very little skill to operate a ptt switch you can buy yourself a fantastic set-up in the rf world and be a big shot with nothing but deep pockets. Probably one of the reasons my main hobbies are ones where actual skill trumps deep pockets! LOL Nothing wrong with being successful and financially prosperous it is just the principal of tossing money at a problem to win that irritates me. I hate it even more when it is my tax dollars being tossed at a problem often with no real results to show for it!

Gentlemen I have an anytone at-6666 and would like to use my Ranger SRA-198
any adapter out of the box or how to wire it. or can I use it out of the box it has a 6 pin plug
Thanks

My experience was that the non power microphones did not sound as well as power microphones. Exception to the rule was my Hial 718 I was told that sounded good.

An adapter won't work unless you move the mic pins on the adapter to the correct locations. I believe there is voltage on mic pin 6. You're better off rewiring a 6 pin connector to your Ranger mic. You can rewire the adapter just for your Anytone if you want to alternate this mic on different radios.

According to this Anytone 6666 mic diagram, you only need to wire Pin wires 1, 3, and 5 from your Ranger mic. If your Ranger mic was wired to work on a Cobra 29 or Galaxy CB, make note of the 4 wire mic cable diagram and solder the corresponding mic color wires from pins 1, 2, and 3, to the correct pins on the 6 pin connector.

A "few" years ago Bob Heil made a comment about his new line of microphones was going to make him a million dollars, when asked how they would do that, his answer was that he was going to paint them gold (true story).

I'll guess that he wasn't wrong.
