Apartment Base Station

Just a little update. Things are the same as far as the setup. Antenna swr 1.1-1.2 across the band, over the summer talked a lot of skip, locals still don't think i'm in an apartment. I kinda want to step it up a notch or so, (AMP)!.....Have 20amps of service in my living room and have ran just the 200watts from the radio, any ideas? Tube or transistor, crazy but do it, or just plain stupid and leave it like it is? I've got a few linears and wanting to know if it would be overkill being in the apartment still... I've got the amp itch!

I would not press your luck!
To Gain just 1 S unit ...You need to jump to 800 watts!!!
If you must have Mor Power:ROFLMAO: I would look for a clean used Ameritron AL80B and run it about 4-500 out, and quit while you're ahead!
Stay away from the splatter box bricks, not worth the headaches and possible repercussions.
All the Best
Gary

You live near Indy, don't you? What freq do you operate maybe I have heard you while SWLing?
I listen to 38 and when hear the band start to open move to 10 meters...73

It’s the upgrade itch. Means other components, too. Desk, chair, studio mike, MFJ-1025, fancy speaker, tweety bird key up (the list never ends), ha!

.

...I know how you feel 314,, back in the 70's i lived in apartment complex 2nd floor and i used to jump up on the roof and mount my 1/2 wave radio shack antenna up on a metal vent pipe so i could work the airwaves for a couple hours, i was real careful to make sure no wind was blowing and when done I would have to go back out and take it down. I don't recommend anyone do this.

so enjoy the hobby and take what mother nature gives you as i also feel you are putting out sufficient watts and not much to gain by increasing it. the antenna height is where the next gain would be, but unfortunately you are limited for now.

Ok, changed out my antenna, have a Moxon up for 11 meters about 25ft facing west. Gonna leave it up past Summer.

I'll raise it up later on and throw the rig expert back in line to see. It was almost spot on on ch20 down to ch1, going to ch40 I seen a slight change but nothing to drive myself crazy with.

I think on the moxon my length might be a tad long by half inch maybe or just leave it be. I think you folks know more about the R= O= Z= stuff than I do. Is it close?
