Apartment living blues (top floor noise!)

Having lived in apartments several times and operated as an Amatuer Operator.
The neighbors will most likely not be forth coming with info about their possession's.
Unless you are on VERY good terms with everyone in the complex.
The landlords are even less forgiving when they receive complaints.
The major issues I found:
Bad or loose grounds on Cables for TV service. The older the complex the likelihood of grounds on outlets becomes a constant issue, noise everywhere!
Touch Lamps!!!
Timers on lighting for complex(day/night sensors)
Parking lot lighting
These are most generally items that will be out of your realm to control or fix.
I also had a 3rd floor unit. The last one I was fortunate to have good relation's with the neighbors below and ran a piece of wielding cable to a ground rod down the supports for all the balconies. That helped a BUNCH!!! However due to length made 10m unusable except late at night.
Your Equipment grounds are impossible as that length becomes prohibitive.
Do not use the outlet ground from wall outlets. This will only cause you to pick-up any noise on that line in the entire complex, plus if your transmit signal splashes on to that it will radiate the entire complex.
Cheap stereos are an endless supply of garbage.
Best advise I can give is filter your equipment best you can, including coax.
A Lowpass filter or bandpass filter will help to a degree, and good quality coax line chokes may also help.
I caution you about amplifiers, once the complaints start you will be blamed for every issue someone has with anything.
I only ran 100 watts with a good quality Kenwood HF radio. I even had one Tennent in the complex next door that blamed me for burning up her electric skillet!!!:ROFLMAO:
I was fortunate to have good understanding Landlords the last 2 apartments I lived in, they would call me and let me know if they received a complaint. I would then shut down for a few hours or wait till late at night to operate.
This shielded me from the Corporate Managers, because if they get notified your radio days are over, most lease agreements have a clause(s) included about Tennent's using equipment that causes interference.
That's the reason I moved from one apartment. Once the corporate people got involved, I was blamed for everything, I travelled 3-5 days a week, and I received complaint's when I was not even home!
The Corporate people don't care, it will be your issue.
Just take that for what's worth.

All the Best

I had a S7 noise level on my CB until I found the culprit---an old spiral type energy saving light bulb. On = S7. Off = S1.
Replaced it. Problem solved.
