Arrow Handheld 2m/440 Satellite Antenna Review

I seriously doubt if that antenna would melt, but I wouldn't want to be holding it.

If the foam grip is insulating ur hand from the metal what could it possibly do to ya ? I wouldn't do it because I have 3' of copper wire & metal plates.

The power handling capability of the antenna is a function of the gamma match design. If you took that off and put your own gamma match on that could handle more power, you could increase the capability quite a bit. Don't try that while holding it, though. They do sell a mounting bracket accessory for attaching it to a mast.

Good good. My plan is to get it on a metal camerah tripod. Strap one leg of the tripod to the vehicle and run about 5-200w vhf only.
I think I read somewhere CK said its beam width on tx rx is 45°s ? If thats the case maybe just run 65w...

Thanks much. I like the idea of the wider coverage at low SWR for the Elk log antenna, but I like even more the packability of the Arrow Yagi. The construction just looks pretty robust for such a lightweight little beast.

I owned both of those antennas. The Arrow was definitely durable. The Elk performed well, but was fragile.

Arrow antennas are 'top shelf'. I have their 3-el VHF Yagi and the 7-el UHF Yagi - and the carry bag. The bag allows me to store both antennas so that was a plus, not having to purchase 2 bags.

I typically use the antennas for RDF applications on an aluminum 31' telescopic mast that rests in a receiver-mounted quiver of sorts. Works great ;)

Here's the mast quiver I constructed.

I used one paired with an HT with air BAND. Used it to track down powerlinenoise I'd get close with Am, then zero in on VHF, then UHF. Very effective and was always able to find the culprit/s.
