ASP-7A (108-470MHz) ground plane

Hi everyone,
I recently acquired this "Antenna Specialists Co." antenna and I'm pretty certain it is not for CB because of the MHz. I hooked it up to my home-based Cobra 148GTL through a SWR meter and that became quickly apparent. But I'm pretty new to all of this. What is this used for? Is it any good? What might it be worth to someone else?

The center antenna is about 26" tall and has a standard antenna, female, input plug at the base-end with 4 screw-in radials and a small piece of metal used for a U-bolt attachment to a pole.

For starters, the 2 meter, 1.25 meter and 70 cm ham bands are all in that range, as well as FRS/GMRS/MURS radio services. I'm sure there are business band radios in that range as well, as well as others.

This datasheet may provide more information about the antenna.

Thanks for the reply The DB! The pdf you provided came with the antenna, but apart from the SWR stuff, the rest is Greek to me. I take it this antenna is for ham radios then. Any idea what it might be worth? I'm not looking at it from a money-making perspective, I just have no use for it and even less of an idea as to what I should ask for it?

The Antenna Specialist base station division was bought by Andrew Corporation, Orlando Park, IL a number of years ago. Attached is the current data sheet from Andrew.

Ths web site sells the antenna: ASP7A Product Detail. Not cheap, but it is a commercial antenna meant to be cut to a particular frequency as shown in the instruction sheet provided by DB.

If left alone, you could easily use it as a scanner antenna for 50 to 900 MHz.

Yes, $165 for five 26 inch aluminum rods and something similar to a mirror mount bracket is a bit steep on a 1/4 wave. If this price is based on material costs alone, I figure a Maco V-58 should be about $1800 worth of antenna at these rates.

Thanks for the link Mike. I had no luck finding it myself, so thank you. I certainly won't be asking that much for it but it is clear it has never been used and comes with box and instructions to boot. Thanks again everyone for your help.
