The Black body and silver grill looks fantastic on my Astatic special stand, matches perfectly. Gets great SSB audio reports. AM gets fair reports as well.

I'm using one right now on a golden eagle stand with a Cobra 2000. I am getting favourable audio reports. My previous favorite with this radio was a Turner +3 but reception reports are better with the 10-DA. I'm sticking with the DA for now!

FYI: I've tested the frequency response on this D104/10DA setup and measured 250-9500hz from the AUX jack of the Cobra 2000. The results back up the continued, unsolicited good audio reports that I receive. BTW, the Turner +3 response was 250-2750hz (which suits a stock radio just fine).

just got a newer 2995dx with a night eagle d104 mic..getting great reports on am and ssb but a few local hams i talk with say it needs a lil more base so i keep the frequency 10 cycles up to there liking.
my question is would this 1oda make much difference on my already ok mic?
im looking for a more studio quality w/out taking away my modulation.
i have 4 d104 mics and the night eagle seems to be the best,but i dont really no if there the same inside or if it may have a 10da or better part already inside?any way for me to tell what it has by looking at it?thanks

Hi all, just wondering if anybody has used the 10-DA element versus the standard 'lollipop' one on the D104 desk mic, would the 10-DA SSB mic head be a worthwhile investment? and if so what is the sound difference between them.

This mic head is HIGH Impedence! Using it with a modern rig will result in thin sound. It was designed for SSB..but older high impednce tube rigs etc. You can try running it on an Astaic amplified base, which should help match the impedence better to newer rigs. NOTE HOWEVER that there were different versions of the 10D head..(that had various suffix letters added to the end of 10D ) Some of these options were mid/low impednece and various element options Verify which head version you have. They all look the same. But typically, the most popular one found today is not matched to rigs after abt 1970s (which typically have mid to low impedence mic inputs)... unless you use the Astatic amplified stand, or some kind of impedence matching cct. It is a great looking and sounding mic when used correctly !

I had a 10-DA back in the 80s. They are tuned for voice at about 2400 hertz. I loved it.

I have one on an amplified Silver Eagle stand on a FT101ZD Mark 3 and it gets great audio reports. I have compared it to my FT1000D with a Heil Pro 7 series headset boom mike and get reports of pretty much the same.
