Astroplane, what is it? 1/4, 1/2, 5/8 ??

Found this interesting read on the Astroplane done a few years back. So, really what was the Avanti AS? What about the the Siro TO. Is it the same principle of how the Avanti used the 9 ft mast below the basket as part of the antenna?
