Automotive question about voltage

Sorry typo. I didn't try the meter right at the battery I used an 8' of 22awg wire. So I figured there was a voltage drop....

There are voltage drops, and then there are VOLTAGE DROPS. A typical sensitivity for an "inexpensive" (i.e. cheap) D'Arsonval meter movement is 1000 ohms per volt, meaning if the top end of the scale is 15 volts, the DC resistance of the meter circuit would be something like 15K. With, say, 14.5 volts applied, this results in a current of ...? Remember, I = E/R.

Hint: not enough current to worry too much about, which means not much voltage drop, either.

They should all be back-lit. Not with LED though, you will have to locate the proper LED lamp for the application yourself.

Here is a good conversion source.

Good news. Took apart the meter and it has a variable resistor on the circuit and there was a screw wedged between the servo ahaha talk about qc I was able to recalibrate the meter. Its accurate now. Not bad for $9 shipped. I am still going to purchase one from orieleys autoparts I may like those more. What I really want is a digital one that is 60mm but cant find any

Warren, I have heard of those before. Don't they just plug directly into the diagnostics connector port usually found under the dash somewhere? Pretty cool meters.

It plugs into the OBD-II port of the car. Mount the meter face somewhere convenient and connect the cable.

I'm very pleased with the gauge. It provides real time indication of fuel consumption and has taught me to increase driving efficiency considerably. I'm getting easily 25-30% better fuel economy simply by modifying my lead foot.

It will scan any engine codes and reset as needed.

Mine monitors full time driving speed, coolant temperature, and instantaneous fuel consumption. The fourth spot occasionally changes from fuel consumption per hour, volts, engine load, or whatever else looks interesting at the time. With the latest firmware upgrade it allows average fuel consumption either for day or since last fillup. Still reading the manual to see what else has been included.

Here's where mine came from...

ScanGauge II is the wtg. But since I an existing hole in the dash I had to fill it with some sort of meter:)
