Baofeng Tacticool Antenna

got my Abbree today, seems to be a real one, green plastic wrap, and 2 seals in the package

does show higher results on the field strength meter, I don't really have any 2m repeaters that are on the fringe area ,, I did have one 440 repeater that is around 25 miles from me and the Abbree couldn't get into it at first but my other antennas could, but I raised the ht up higher then I could get into it..

very hard to test ht antennas by yourself, , im sure the Abbree has a different take off angle/radiation pattern with how long it is.

it does seem to be very solid and a good quality antenna

I have been using the 28 inch version for a couple weeks at work.
It works ok, but my Nigoya 771 works about as well.
It is not an amazing jump in performance like some would think.
It is built well, it feels like it has a stiff piece of steel inside the shrink wrap, think steel tape measure doubled up inside,
I have not done any field strength testing yet.
Right now I prefer the 771 as far as using it at work simply because the small diameter whip is much more flexible in the work place.

Will update as I play with it more.
For the price it works just fine.

I broke down yesterday and ordered 1 Abbree 28 inch antenna, and also a Signal Stick for my 2 new UV5R'S (8 WATT), or close to it radios. I'm not going to be packing them around in the battle field, just on my back porch and around my property. I'll give them a good test. They both look Ridiculous, but that's ok. Hope they work better than the antenna supplied with these radios.

This is my 2m/440 command post when I'm not in the shack. I'll have to prop the radio up when I use the AR Antenna. Look real close for the homebrew 1/4 wave ground plane antenna. If you zoom in real close you'll see my diy 6m horizontal Dipole. 73

I bought the slightly smaller version and it worked fine but I became a little worried about the tiny SMA connector on the radio so I'm using an extension cable to keep it from potentially snapping off due to stress.

yeah that's a potential weak spot. there is a sma to bnc connector that firms that up. Im going to have to get me a few of those . Cant wait to try them out,.

I've been testing this antenna for 2 days now, and it rocks. It's very cumbersome but Dang does it radiate RF. I'm hitting repeaters 34 miles away hard. I'm,finally able to hit a repeater that none of my HT's have been able to with the little rubber duck antennas. Win Win, but it isn't something im going to be wearing around my property everyday.
But it is definitely Tacticool (y)

I've never been far away from most repeaters around here but thanks to your results I think I'll buy a sma/bnc adapter and put this on my 817 when I take it portable. :sneaky:

Woody to be honest I haven't tried it on UHF yet. There are a few repeaters with UHF, so I will text soon.
By the way. There is a local repeater here that is tucked up in the woods, and it always takes at least 4 watts to get into it. This Tactical antenna can get into it with 1 watt. That's right, 1 WATT. I think I done good.

I was looking for something else on Amazon when this popped up in a "search". Kinda appropriate :sneaky:

I tested the Signal Stick today, and the results are pretty close. I think the Abbree 28" version is better transmitting on VHF,but lacks on UHF. The Signal Stick transmits darn near as good as the Abree, but the Signal Stick pulls in UHF better for some reason. I think the stick is 21 " long. The whip is very thin and wiggles around a lot. Even when standing still it wiggles around. It does roll up nice enough to fit in your back pocket if ya want.
Bottom line, I like them both way better than the rubber duckies. I've been toten the Signal Stick a lot more than the Abree, mostly due to size, and weight. JMHO, and I reckon that ain't worth much.(y)
