base vs base

shucks you already have two great radios with the 706's go with the Cobra 2000 with the freq mods and a amp. i do the same thing i have a Icom 745 and a Yaesu 950 and a Cobra 2000 that i use for regular SSB cb rag chew.also check out the Uniden Washington, i personaly think it's a better radio then the Cobra 2000. i use a Uniden Washington when i get bored with the Cobra 2000. i have the Uniden Washington Modded out as well with extra channels and a unlocked clarifier and a hard wired PDC 256 frequency counter for continous frequency read out. the Cobra 2000 and the Uniden Washington make great freeband radios with the clarifiers unlocked and the freq counters. you will like the receive on the 2000 or washington much better then the 2995dx and i am RCI fan.

CB? OR 10 METERS

I have been on the CB for over 40 years. I like collecting them. Here were i live there is no one on the CB band, but the truckers. There is a few that was on channel 40 and for some reason they all went to 26.755. All the CB radios i have is stock. I will not butcher up a good CB to have extra channels in them. The people that are on 26.755 is there on little group. They do not like for some reason for a new person to key up and try to talk to them. Most of the time all they talk about is how much power there radio is putting out and yes they even talk about there kickers on how much power they are putting out. So i went out and got me a new 2950DX last year with the CB band in it. I also collect all kinds of CB stuff. I have 2 kicker k 500 amps. I did talk to these people for a little while until i told them about my K 500 amps. Now they will not talk to me at all. WHY i do not know. So i went ahead and put the 2950DX i got last year in my car and i just got me another 2950DX for my base. I have to tell you the new 2950DX with the black display is great. You can see it a lot better. I will shut up for now, But all i can do now is shoot skip when it rolls in. With all the CB radios you see on ebay that is selling, I just wonder were all the CB people are. Here is just a few pictures of some of my stuff. Thanks for all who is on the CB.

Nice setup bigal thumbs up! Same here i find cbers only willing to talk on the crazy forty am. They all go freebanding ssb when they want privacy. Not that theres any privacy on the radio anyway. Kids ask me sometimes about buying ssb radios i tell them that if ssbers want to talk they'll come to them. I prefer the 2950 to the modded cb's because i cant justify the expense of modding and the nuisance of channel maps. Besides alot of hf rigs are noiser and broader recieved than 2950. I find if u want the ears then u gotta put up with the noise.

CB/10 Meter

Thanks guy. I guess i should have got a receiver and not a radio. All i seem to do is listen, because no one to talk to. Some of the truckers gets pissed at you if you ask for radio check. And of course some are very nice. Its just all the radio stuff i have and no one to talk to.

Well pull out the radio and amp and call on 38lsb and 555usb about 3o clock and again at ten grenwich mean time plus daylight savings. Excellent conditions into uk and ireland at the moment plus locals might hear u on and break in. Most europeans have passable english too.

where u at?

nice setup there.

I have a 2995DX, and the receive is annoying. Not at all like my Magnum OmegaForce; it sounds clean in comparison. That is also true of the RCI-2950; too noisy. I had a chance to compare the Magnum 257 HP and the OmegaForce S-45 HP to the RCI's; the Magnums blew them away - IMO. So many people have said that they have the same problem; that is not what I have seen at my end.

I will say this 2995DX has great sounding AM transmit - though. 40-160w dead key/PEP on AM with the 2290 finals. About 130w PEP on SSB. Traded it for a Texas Star 350, as the 2995 had SSB problems. Fixed most of the problems the radio had, just one more to go. Everything else about the radio is fine and dandy; just get annoyed with the receive noise is all.

AS far as the Cobra 2000 goes; they are merely a deluxe version of the 148 GTL. They sound nice and they look pretty with the freq counter and all. But any old fine-running 148 GTL with the 5 pin mic plug is every bit the radio that the 2000 is. In some ways better; as the 2000 must have the PLL chip changed out to the 8719 just to get more frequencies available. The 2000 also has a coarse/fine clarifier knob. But I don't consider that a big deal; do you?

I've worked on/aligned a couple of the 2000's. I think they are more hype than substance. But their receive is a far sight better than the 2995DX. No contest there . . .

A proper alignment will help reduce Rangers white noise.

If you can pick up an external DSP speaker it will solve your receive issues. Even the old Rat Shack DSP speakers work great and can be had cheap. I used a GAP Hear It DSP speaker on a couple RCI's i've had in the past... Worked great.
