I have a 2995DX, and the receive is annoying. Not at all like my Magnum OmegaForce; it sounds clean in comparison. That is also true of the RCI-2950; too noisy. I had a chance to compare the Magnum 257 HP and the OmegaForce S-45 HP to the RCI's; the Magnums blew them away - IMO. So many people have said that they have the same problem; that is not what I have seen at my end.
I will say this 2995DX has great sounding AM transmit - though. 40-160w dead key/PEP on AM with the 2290 finals. About 130w PEP on SSB. Traded it for a Texas Star 350, as the 2995 had SSB problems. Fixed most of the problems the radio had, just one more to go. Everything else about the radio is fine and dandy; just get annoyed with the receive noise is all.
AS far as the Cobra 2000 goes; they are merely a deluxe version of the 148 GTL. They sound nice and they look pretty with the freq counter and all. But any old fine-running 148 GTL with the 5 pin mic plug is every bit the radio that the 2000 is. In some ways better; as the 2000 must have the PLL chip changed out to the 8719 just to get more frequencies available. The 2000 also has a coarse/fine clarifier knob. But I don't consider that a big deal; do you?
I've worked on/aligned a couple of the 2000's. I think they are more hype than substance. But their receive is a far sight better than the 2995DX. No contest there . . .
