Bearcat 980 ssb,did i mess up trading for 1?

I traded my chicom kinda anytone smart cbs and another 2 way radio for a same as new bearcat 980 ssb.
Luckily i discovered how to kill that ugly annoying BEEP.mine must be a newer model as i held down on the anl nb button n killed the BEEP. Got a few things to learn about it yet.
Im tryin it a few days on base then installing it in my pickup.
Wonder what kinda mods are abound for it?

I know it's an 11 meter tradition to modify everything, I used to believe the same, but what are you looking to improve? I can see doing something like disabling an annoying beep. The two 980s that I've heard had good clear audio on AM and SSB.

Not many, if any, do-it-yourself mods for this radio that I have heard about. There are certainly mods that can be done, depends on how deep your pockets are. A google search should turn up some ideas.

From what I have heard, the 980 is a pretty solid performer. I have heard a few on the air but never operated one.

IMO I am a big fan of not chopping up something that works.....But then sometimes I brake things trieing to make it "better"....Sometimes I'm dumb.
As to did you "mess up"? Thats up to you...........I am sure I would not made that swap.

I like my 980 a lot. Nice features, dead on frequency if you are a side bander. Nice clean audio, the weather band is nice to have as well. It is just not powerhouse. A RM Italy 203 is nice behind for some muscle.

My 2 anytone smart cbs i did the mod for channel expansion op 1 and op2 then never used the mod.
It might never get modded but seeing what is available

On the inside.

Not so different on the outside that I can tell

But if you want to diddle the inside, this will matter.

Yeah, me too.
Haven't had a cb with ssb in forty years. Hard to pass up one of these with all its good reviews and a price tag of $120 or less.

There is no actual channel mod for this radio that shops or techs can do like older radio's. Not possible. It's a radio that is best left stock, if you try to over tune the wattage you start blowing finals.
