I miss my 1970 Ford pickup. Bought it new and kept it 14 years. Lots of metal inside the cab to mount a radio. I gutted the glove box and mounted an amp it that empty spot.

Some jerk broke in the truck and stole the radio and a flashlight. They left the amp right behind the closed glove box door.

The new rev 980SSB had several important changes if you look at the information out there. And there is a wealth of it if you know where to look.

Aside from being able to kill the beep there was a complete redesign of several systems in the radio which lowered the build price significantly. Most notably the PLL and receiver. The TX stage was improved as well.

The plastic dash and interior in my '96 Dodge has cracked and fallen off in chunks. No radio in there.

Is there some external identifier on the 980's that indicate the version that can go beepless?

I think it might also have a different FCCID but the screw is a really easy and fast visual indication.

Way off topic but Geno's garage sells a nice radio mount for those dodge trucks. I have a cobra 29 and watt meter mounted to mine. It was once screwed to the lower part of the dash but, as you know, they fall apart.
