BENT 5/8 GROUND PLANE?

Why not ? Just curious?

I used to be employed by Alcoa, you know the worlds largest aluminum manufacture, so please explain why you would not heat aluminum?

Yes we know of Alcoa and we also know that if you heat metal in one area only you change the molecular formation of the molecules in that particular area and the metal either side of the area affected will have a different molecular structure making the area heated proned to structure failure do to said heating.

The entire piece of metal would have to be heated and re tempered to bring it back to it's original molecular makeup of overall strength.

After being a machinist for 20 years, I've never had luck hot forming anything but hot rolled steel, and some very mild cold rolled steel. Aluminum is better cold formed, especially thin walled aluminum tubing that is aged. If he were to heat that hot enough to make any difference, it'd most likely crystallize and fall off, not break off.

I took this down this morning and using a tube bender for doing diesel brake lines I carefully straightened it back out and you can't even tell it was bent. I asked the owner why he wanted it removed and found it was his sons who went into the army and he (Dad) thought the antenna was ruined from being bent. I offered to put it back up after finding this out and was asked if I wanted all the mast and mount also. I guess Dad wasn't into radio. I ended up with 3 10 foot fence pole top rails that connect together, all the guy wires and rigging , and 100ft of 213 coax. He said he was going to ask his son about the radio and see if he wanted him to sell it, If so and if the price is right I will buy it too as it is a older 148gtl. Thanks again to all of you for your help on this.

I guess the aluminum cookie sheets being used to bake all the holiday cookies will be mutilated by the uneven heat as most home appliances do not evenly heat in the oven.

I can also see where there may be some concern for changing of the molecular structure, but then again most antenna's are made from 6061 or 6063 extrusions, ground radials support nothing, so is there a need to have concern about tensile strength?

I guess the marine mechanics who use heat to remove broken bolts in aluminum heads should stop that method also?

Heat will not hurt aluminum unless it is excessive, how many engines, cylinder heads for automobiles are made of aluminum? Of course the cylinder walls are lined with steel in the combustion chamber but that block still gets pretty hot.

If it was a boom for a 24' yagi then I would not suggest heat, but a small ground radial, go figure.

Those cookie sheets have other alloys that allow it to tolerate those heating conditions.
 
I sure know they can bake some good cookies, just finished off some homemade chocolate chip cookies at mom's house, enjoy the holidays.

Actually R&D. Part of ACE'S that got diversified and sold to the Swedish company SAPA.

Yes I heard it all from salesman also, and the promises they made then came to my office to see if we could make/invent/ such an item,, Merry Christmas
 
i have fixed many bent elements with my arrow straightener.
take your time and it will not break.arrows are a lot thinner walled and fragile than antenna elements.
