Looking for a friend. Best made mobile AM with stable LSB USB FCC 40 Channel CB Radio on the market today?
P.S. Let me add two of his requests. He is looking for the 6 didgit freq counter in the radio for SSB use and the old type needle s meter. I told him I don't think they make radios with the needle meters anymore and wasn't sure about the freq counter. All suggestions welcome.

I know the McKinley has "pots" that can be adjusted. Not sure on the Uniden 980??

I had the McKinley and it's solid on SSB
Talked to numerous on 980's they sound spot on as well

Ran McKinley behind RM203. No issues.

$115-120 Uniden vs $170 McKinley (mine was $75 as person had one from President after he had bought one).

Have the 980. Agree with RT431. Run it with a 450LD.

Now have a McKinley set up with the same 450 linear.

Both are stable radios.
Yes he mentioned the Uniden and the mckinley although he would like a 6 digit freq counter and the old type s meter in the radio. I told him the old meters are basically gone now. Not sure if Uniden has the 6 digit counter in them. I have a 955 and a 6666 so not up to date on the FCC CB Radios.

An inline external freq counter? Would have to inject tone into mic on ssb. Both the 980 and McKinley are 5 digit and small readout.

They don't make an FCC Legal CB with a digital frequency counter. The UNIDEN 980SSB has a Channel number & digital frequency display but the digits do not change on the readout when the clarifier is turned even if the clarifier is unlocked.

SIX-SHOOTER

Both McKinley and Uniden 980 have a small 5 digit freq counter on the front. It doesn't move as neither clarifier is open or open-able. Or at least result without a ton of work.

The only other option would be a 949 or 979 and add on a Galaxy FC347 frequency counter. But most Galaxy will drift till warm up and some after as well.
