Just for what it's worth, about fiberglass.
The strength is in the material used, not the resin. The stiffness is also a result of that 'glass' material. The resin used is just a sort of 'glue'/goo that eventually hardens and holds things together. The resin, it's self, isn't all that strong at all, gets brittle, and has almost no torquing strength (if that makes sense, and if I said it right, and I know I didn't, sorry).
There are gobs of different 'types' of fiberglass resin. Some are better in some ways than others, deals with what they are made to be compatible with. Almost all of them are not exactly 'comfortable' dealing with sun light. And if you ever decide to use it for building, some will definitely run you out of the county with their smell!
If there are any 'fiberglass' people here, oh am I in trouble for not getting any of that just exactly right! And they would be correct, none of this is 'scientific' by any means, just what I've had the 'pleasure' of finding out for myself.
The best advice I can give about this, if you've no experience with it, is to read those @#$ instructions! They really are 'gospel'. And it's just my opinion, but stuff made by "West Systems" is the easiest fiberglassing to use. Also not the cheapest.
And lastly, if you are blessed with the same sterling qualities I am, you are allergic to the @#$ resin! There's some stuff called 'hypoallergenic' resin for people blessed such as I am (hyper allergenic). You really don't want to know what that stuff costs... or smells like!
Have fun!
