Sounds like pretty good advice from Rob. I'd add, though: if you're using any splitters (one cable in, two (or more) out), make sure all the outputs are either used or capped off with 75 ohm dummy loads, which should be available from your cable provider. Radio Shack used to carry them; maybe they still do.
An open cable jack on a splitter is an open door for RF to come in - or go out.
