Good evening Radio friends, i bought a a used power supply on ebay and it works great for my needs. My only complaint is that the fan on it is loud( i think) and i was wondering if there is any way i can make it quieter?? Can i replace the fan on it with a more quieter one or is it something i have to live with?? As i said at the start it works fine powering my radio, any suggestions would be appreciated!! Thank you and God Bless folks☺

I second the notion of finding the size of the fan first. Often, a ball bearing fan will be used, which is great for longevity, but not so great for being quiet at low speeds. It could also be that a sleeve bearing fan was used, but after aging, it gets louder.

I would say to try a sleeve bearing fan as a replacement, and bring down the voltage, if necessary, to make the fan quieter. Keep in mind that the lower the fan speed, the less air flow.

Often, when I am looking for things that might be questionable if purchased on ebay, I will look for them on Amazon instead, and see what the reviews sayo about sound.

Can you take a pic of the fan?

Because if it can be disassembled, you may be able to re-lube the bearing to quiet it down. Just need to find out how to "pull it out of service" so you can even see if the shaft "wobbles" or has a lot of free play -for if it does, you should replace it versus trying to fix it...at least you can get dimensions Depth, Height Width - check connector does it use 3-wire or 4-wire with speed control(?) type of thing...then if you have to, you can send in a pic of the fan to help them find a replacement...

Some use a simple plug - others a sticker as a dust seal - so when it's removed you have to cover it up with tape - but the plug ones - if it can be inspected, it more than likely is a dry bearing and just needs a TLC...

Pull the plug, and see if some drops of a lube oil can work into the sleeve and bearing to quiet it down and speed up its' efficiency.
