Buying items on eBay. Buyer Beware!

In my own personal experience buying radio related items from sellers on eBay has been a real crapshoot. I have definitely been lucky at times and I have found some real nice equipment at premium prices. But other times I have also been very unlucky and have gotten ripped off by some questionable sellers.

You know, the sellers who claim their item is not DOA, but yet when you receive the item it was probably given it's last rites 5 years ago.

Or the seller who claims their vintage item is New In Box, but yet when you receive the item it turns out to be Used In Box.

And the ultimate rip off is when a seller will only accept personal checks or money orders. And after sending your check you get absolutely nothing in return, except your cancelled check.

Buyer Beware!!!!!

thats why if i buy something off e-bay i get the sellers # before anything. If im willing to pay for a item i want to talk to that person. And then get some personal info from then.

I have been pretty lucky (or careful). I have been on ebay for about eight years now and have 220 feed backs with no negitives. But last year I won a Cobra 88 for $50 that was discribe a "mint" and the seller had hundreds of positive feed backs. When I got the radio it had been wiped down with armorall had weak recieve, low audio and smelled like cat piss, I had to put it outside for two weeks! The seller acused me of liying, go figure?

I personally love the Astatic & Turner New In Box (new old stock) microphone listings.

If the mic. is brand new then why does it already have a mic. plug installed?

If the mic. is brand new then why did someone cut the mic. plug off?

And why doesn't the mic. box have the original packing material
and warranty card?

And then when you e-mail the seller about these questions, they usually never respond.

Putz indeed, but as Confucious once said "It not pay to shop Screw-Bay" ! LOL !! I have had 3 "deals"off Screw-Bay and all 3 were not what was represented by seller, better off shopping hamfest's and flea markets !

Yeah I hear ya on that. I have been lucky except for a expo kit I bought, that had a bad solder joint that I had to disassemble the whole thing to fix it. But then again I bought a grant xl on the forum swapshop, paid for it and the dude took the money and ran! You take a risk whenever you purchase something on the good ol' internet..
