Can eBay legally charge 12.5% on shipping and taxes?

Probably not the right to post this but just noticed eBay is making profits on shipping AND taxes. I can see why on the shipping because a scammer will sell something that is worth $100.00 for $1.00 and inflate shipping costs to cover the expenses. But on tax. what a rip off.

Probably illegal. Maybe depends on what state you live in. Here in Colombia the Ebay wannabe is Mercado Libre. I buy a lot of stuff through them which is imported from the US. The US/Colombia free trade agreement was fully implemented on Jan 1st this year so now there are no import duties on anything brought in from the US. But many sellers still charge the duties and pocket the money. I bitched about this on ML's Facebook site and got a call from them asking for specific sellers that did this. Mercado refunded my overpays, and I noticed that these sellers are no longer listing products for sale. Buyer beware.

eBay can charge 50% if they want to. It is a private business setting prices. You as a consumer can choose whether or not to shop there. They included Shipping in their Final Value Fees several years ago. You should have noticed that sooner.

I've been on eBay a long time. Both buy and sell. Selling there only now when I more or less have to .... too much trouble or lack of buyers to sell elsewhere. I hate that every couple of years they change the look and workings of their site. Seems they makes changes just for the sake of making changes and not to improve it.
I do not like their (high) fees - back in the day they were only 5% and I think 3% before that. Now with Paypal it's 12 or whatever. And if you have a transaction that goes into a Dispute .... they will resolve the dispute in favor of the party that has the verifiable facts on their side .... but it takes too long for resolution. They need to cut dispute resolution time in half.
And God help you if you have to call them about a problem .... call center in India with peeps with thick accents you can barely understand them. I still buy on eBay if that's where the best deal is .... but selling there is my very last choice now.

I’m done with selling on EBay…no more for me. PayPal was great on EBay for both selling and buying.

But now Ebay wants wide open access to our bank accounts to make deposits and collect their fees whenever they choose to do so. Screw that.

I’ll still buy something on occasion as long as I can pay with PayPal.

All the above is the reason I don't sell anything any more on flea bay.

I used to sell tubes, Yaesu and radio parts radios stuff....
They want a open ticket to suck on your bank account and little to support the seller when you ship a $100 Mic and the guy instantly files a complaint on receipt and wants a refund and then ship's you a pos dead mic back
And it goes on ......
I buy stuff there but won't sell anymore.
It was ok years ago, almost fun, but greed got in.

And this is exactly what happened to me and exactly why they changed their policy, cause of me (haha). I told them I'd close my bank account and they wouldn't get a cent out of me, guess they figured a way to close that loop.

Unless I absolutely have to I won't sell on eBay anymore either, they'll protect themselves and a scam buyer but not you, total BS.

Only one problem. There is no competition unfortunately no other way to get rid of radios.

(To the statement, not the man)

Doesn’t matter. That’s also greed, wanting every penny from used gear.

“You” got your money’s worth, or not.

eBay made it easy to find the nation of buyers. As these monopolies are fixed entities which operate without any fear of competition (not allowed; or not allowed to succeed), the same pattern always occurs.

Trash it if it has no spare parts value TO YOU.
To you, TODAY.

None of this stack-it-in-the-garage crap.
That’s spiritually degrading.

A good radio you make a gift to someone.
