Some years ago, I put together an interface using an MS-DOS-based computer to control the channels on an old GE CB (just happen to be the same one I used in my Spectrum Analyzer project). I've gotten alot of emails for details on the project, so I've posted the schematic. Basically the computer controls up to 8 programming lines of the PLL chip. The software end can be almost anything from rudimentary hi-lo single line control, to sophisticated split-frequency programming with lots of memory channels. It would be possible to set up a rotating frequency plan that keeps changing the frequency to a new one every time you key, allowing VERY hard-to-follow conversations.

The software I wrote allows basic 40-channel control with split-freq operation, as well extra channel control for radios like the 148, etc including split frequency ability.
 

UPDATE:

I just finished converting a Galaxy DX959, and writing the data file for it. The data file should work on any of the newer RCI-built radios using teh RCI-8719 PLL chip. Frequency range on the 959 in 26.695 to 27.965. Pretty good coverage.
 
I have a 959 that I'd like to use as a "project " like this possibly...will this overcome the "drift" or is this something that will still be present?
and how much ya chargin?hehe
 
This system simply controls the programming of the PLL chip, and monitors the transmit pin of the mic jack to control split-frequency operation.

By the way, I finally uploaded the correct schematic. Someone pointed out that the one on the site still showed 7407's, instead of teh 7406 that should have been shown.
 
Found a potential bug in the software, so it will be unavailable for the moment. If you are familiar with Windows IO operations and file operations in Visual Basic or other programming language, you can write your own. I'll be happy to provide the layout of the data files and how to read them.
 
OK, this baby is DONE!! I updated the help file with the new graphics from the program screen, and added a bank of 10 memory slots, each of which holds a complete channel AND frequency group.
