CB FM Mode

Thanks Dx hasn't been too bad here but AM has really dropped off. Forget getting a radio check when testing a radio. I did order a President Thomas FCC this morning to test FM because President has a $20.00 rebate going on until 8-15-22 and that will more than pay for the shipping. Walcott Radio, Right Channel Radio has Free Shipping !
Hey and Howdy and 73s

I bought a Cobra 2000 that has Extra channels but didn't come with a list and I found some of them but haven't had time to explore all the switch combos. I'll have to look for that 26.805 maybe it is there. They modified the NB & PA switches to use the extra channels and I made a list of some of them but still need to explore. One time I thought I found some 26.? channels but don't remember how the switches were positioned. I can't explore in a hurry. My problem is the To-Do list is Too Big ! LOL
A cobra 2000 with channels will probably get you on 26.805 BUT the 2000 doesn't have FM... (I have seem a couple heavily modified examples mostly for European use that had FM added)

Listening this morning on .805 I heard a station in Georgia working someone? on FM. I guessing this is now the unofficial free band FM calling frequency?

I do believe it is the official unofficial freeband frequency. I talked with a guy from southeast Missouri last night and had a good conversation. He told me that today is the one year anniversary of a facebook group using 26.805 FM. So today they are doing a call log in.

I heard a couple of strong stations out of Pennsylvania last night but didn't have any luck getting a reply from either of them.

I am just working a mobile setup for now. I will be happy to get a base station going again.

There's a group on FB pushing 26.805 as the official FM frequency. I never thought it made sense for the folks running out buying an FCC certified 40ch am-fm CB that would never get to that frequency. Channel 1 made more sense to me, but there's no reason you can't have a couple of 'em ( 1 legal, 1 unlegal). While FM audio is very clear I do not like the way my voice comes through on FM, which is why I have an 2m HT gathering dust, and did finally hear someone on .805 using FM AND an echo mic that sounded like garbage. I'll stick to SSB (and AM on 19).

You probably heard a guy in Alabama using echo. I made contact with him a day or two ago. I didn't care fir the echo he was running either. But, I must say I am digging the FM mode more then I thought I would.

We will see if it is worth or if you can mod the little cheap Thomas FM I'm getting. Money, Money, & More Money !

Remember that FM has ZERO forward audio so if you are running an amplifier & it's a tube amp then you will be giving those tubes a lot of stress & you will not get ANY Peak Swing. It's a Very Overrated mode to me for the 11 meter band.I think it was a waste of time by the FCC.

i think im keeping my schillings and invest in better yet antennas. what i see in my area on fm is white noise.
ya'll go ahead n carry on keep us posted

Well been tracking my Little Thomas radio and says it will be here by Friday. Brings thoughts about using a mobile antenna with it. I know I'm a greenhorn compared to most of you but I wonder about tuning a regular AM CB antenna for use with FM. Is there anything you can do to enhance the antenna for FM use. Or just adjust the SWR on AM and Let Er Rip ?
