CB License

They started with 3 by 4 and when they ran out on the early eighties they went to 4 by 4

Helping to narrow it down, here is what I remember. All through 1976 I was salivating all over my father-in-laws CB gear. Christmas 1976 she bought me a JC Penney Pinto 23 Channel AM mobile. WHen I got that, I discovered that the fee had dropped from $20 to $4. So I filled out my application, wrote a check for $4 and sent them in. Probably about 5 weeks later I got my license in the mail (KANE-4109!). About a month after that, I got an envelope from the FCC returning my $4 check because the fee had been dropped altogether. THIS part would have all been at the beginning of 1977.

What I don't know is when they completely dropped the license requirement.

Having that radio was like magic to me!
