I could only suggest that if the ops would like to work each other, to leave your rig on usb chnl 38 it is less crowded..and listen in the mornings..
DOCTOR/795

That's a great idea. For some reason, switching around the channels is something I haven't done much of. For that matter, why isn't the upper side band used more? Is there a logical reason why not?

By the way Doctor, I did try your numbers somewhere around 11:00 this morning, but nothing in your area was coming in at all.

Conditions died earlier for me, but they came back about an hour ago. I will be trying your call. Want to try 38 upper side band for a few times like Doctor suggested?

By the way, what radio do you use? Is the clarifier unlocked?

I have been trying your call many times in the last 20 minutes, both upper and lower and get nothing from North of me. I am pushing about 100w too. I guess this validates that a horizontal antenna will have trouble talking to a vertical. :)

Are you hearing those Jamaica stations?

Yep. Montego Bay was just starting to push on through. And yeah I've been shouting out with no contacts. Look like conditions just aren't working for me today.

I can also hear 001 Montego Bay, but I am obviously not getting back to him. I have talked to him before though, on my Uniden 980ssb barefoot and had a great conversation. So power doesn't mean that much if you got the conditions.

Say again what radio do you use?

Running a Cobra 2000 and an Antron99 with a galaxy echo roger beep. Looks like ssb conditions are gone now and just all the heavy hitters are on AM.

Sorry if I asked that before. The 2000 is a great DX radio and should get out good. And I wish I could run that antenna, but no antennas allowed here. I am lucky to get away with the dipole. Have you tried one yet? They are really cheap if you want to try one, and I talked all over the US, the islands and I even heard Australia a few times. $20 off E-bay. Amazing antennas.

We still have skip here. Want to try AM? What channel?

Give a shout out on 28 am. But I doubt we'll get the conditions. I may try a dipole out eventually and get a hammy friend of mine to help set one up. But yeah ive done good so far with this radio since setting it up a few weeks ago. Search YouTube for Scan253 thats my setup.

I am trying 28am. I hear a few others, all South of me. I am shooting a good 90w.

By the way, you won't need any help setting up the dipole. Unroll the legs, hook up the antenna coax to the SO-239 and hange one end up, then the other and stretch it tight. Doesn't matter which way it sets, doesn't have to be more than 10 or 12 feet up, although higher is a little better. It can even slope. ;)

I started on 28 am and then 38 LSB. I made a few contacts. Skip started in New York, spread to Pittsburg then Ohio and Ontario immediately after that. I'm hearing Cocoa Beach now.
