I'm wanting a CB/SSB with WX it looks like my options are 980ssb or President McKinley. What do you all think of these two radios. Thanks

I got the McKinley.. works great for me.. running in mobile with small amp.

Easy to turn down for the amp use from 3/4w to 3 1/2w
I'm leaning towards the McKinley myself I like that the scan works across all bands. I also like the front speaker I think that would work better where I'm wanting to mount the radio.

Just bear in mind below say 30' F the mic causes channels to go up when you press the ptt.

I wired up and Astatic M6-575 mic and now all is well. I just use the channel knob.

Keep in mind the wiring is wierd as it has a hot pin in it.. I have it here somewhere if you need it.

Why do you need extra channels?
I would think most CB people wouldn't need anything other than AM and SSB.
Yeah that's what I thought too. Then I found out that 27.555 USB is the international DX call channel. I keep trying to get Europe early in the morning before I go to work. Sometimes I can hear them but they can't hear me. When the band gets full of skip, the "free band" channels are a good way to find DX and actually be able to talk to someone. Other than that they are not really needed. Without skip my 40 channels are dead except for our local group on ch 20.
