CLUB FREQUENCY 80 METERS

No, I was referring to a matching network for a 75m/80m 1/2 wave, but the same idea, though I'd be worried about the cap handling the high voltage.

Insulate a 1/4wl for 80m? Mount the bottom of the mast on a wooden base on your roof and paint it with Plastidip if you're concerned about rain-proofing.

I am thinking about using 45' of small aluminum tower with a 15' stinger out of the top.

I need to get the feed point 20' above ground so I can install four ground radials and they will slope down to 10' at the ends.

That way all of the antenna will be above ground and not have to worry about any person or animal coming into contact with the radials.

I will get it figured out and start installing it, although ground mounted is much easier to do.

I isolated the last 1/4 wl 80 meter vert using 6X6 posts at the base and just fed it at the bottom of the tower.

what time and what frequency?? 3.985.0 ?? Im gonna jump on 3.913.0 here in a minute or so Im in South Central Wisconsin

3985

It is full of qrn tonight, t-storms all around, will be on tmrw night, suppose to clear up.
DOCTOR/795

I was afraid of the QRN from the storms as they are moving in here in N GA also.

I will turn the rig on but if the crashes are to bad will call it a day and try another time.

That must have worked great! Did you also have a horizontal dipole or inv vee and if so, how did they compare?

Remember, when you're working with a low freq 1/4 wave you can get great performance and keep it from having to be so damn tall by using a capacity hat.

It worked great DX but the fan dipole worked better within 500 miles or so, further than that the vert seemed to be the better of the two in some cases.

Yes cap hat or inverted L works well also if you can get most of the L on the vertical side.

Feels like we are hijacking the thread talking of low band antennas instead of making contacts, :D but it is all good I guess no one has complained yet.
