I have a 139xlr that I just bought at a garage sale and everything seems to work just fine except the receive. I have a connex 3300hp hooked up and it receives very well and they are in the same room and the antenna's are 18' apart. Is there a way to boost the rf signal like in a newer radio or something I need to check? I also have an extra 139xlr for parts. it seems to have quit working while it was in storage. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Check the front end, possible that it has been damaged. There are protection diodes that could be clamping too soon or shorted, also the 1st RF could be damaged, or it's also possible that could have gotten in there and messed around without knowing what they were doing. Check the alignment.

Old post I know ........Could or would a heavy signal received by given radio cause this front end over load ? if that's the case ? would this cause these "receive" protect diodes to blow ? Would this be the damage you speak of ? So in other words , the radio would recieve but kind of act as if the RF gain had been turned down to a degree ?
