Cobra 142gtl component location

With all due respect, I asked for help locating the part location, not what its for. Did I not write my post clearly? I tried to make my question clear, but now 2 replies that do not answer the question. Again, I need the LOCATION of the resistor, please. I explained that and I explained why I needed it........

I don't think it was on my end but again, my Reply, which is #4 in the list of posts, was answering your question with some extras for others that may stumble on this thread later in time - when you may not need this information - others might.

Aside form the wiring color code being different...

Do D36 is the TX diode....

This makes 2 boards with D36 cut...TX so the "Mod" is correct

What about orange wire on top of L17
Guys, it is increasingly difficult for me to use this forum, with my phone. I don't currently have any other internet device. That is part of the problem. So please excuse me. It's really bad on my end. It's very unstable & jumps around all over the place. Sometimes pics are not showing that I later find out are supposed to be there for me to view. When I try to reply to a post, it jumps to a different post. Landscape won't work & portrait view isn't much better. It's exasperating. I know a number of you have tried to and have helped me.. I got my question answered last nite when I found the resistor in question. Often, I can't even see who responded to me so I can respond back, in kind. I'm trying hard, but it's just way too phone unfriendly & I don't understand what that should be, at this stage of the game. I think more peeps use phones than computers..?
I know there are a couple of you I still owe replies to but this lack of site & phone getting along is really making it hard. I just tried to answer someone asking me "what about orange wire above L17. The page went crazy again so I couldn't, so far. What about it? I see 3 orange wires in the pic. I don't see L17 (or whatever # he noted). In the various replies, I've see several wrong pcb's posted, misidentified diode (D34), something about the "orange wire"??, info about stuff to look for or how stuff works, that was not pertinent, in my opinion, to the original question (yes, I understand the explanation that ancillary info is posted for the future benefit of others, however I disagree, unless it directly IR indirectly answers the original question, because I think it's somewhat confusing and I think that other info should be posted only when someone asks for that specific info. Don't get me wrong, some if it is good, useful info, but it's beyond what is needed to keep it simple in answering the question and it was adding to my frustration because, since I also discovered that I wasn't getting the pics that went along with some of those replies, so it made it sound like some wanted to show how much they know, w/o directly answering the question. Then, today, now I see some of those previously missing pics. That's not the poster's fault, I know, but I just trying to describe how things went for me.)

I apologize if I offended anyone due to how this has worked (or not worked) for me.

As of last nite late, there was one post that I didn't see the pic at 1st, but later did, and showed me where the hidden resistor was. I found it from being asked to take another pic further to the right, even tho at that point I didn't see the posted pic that pointed right to it, as I can see now.

And it also looks like some comments are referring to that resistor location and the resistor itself, as something else. I don't get that because I already posted last nite that the request I rcvd to look further to the right, led me to the very hidden (under wires) 187 resistor. It's not something else, it's that resistor. Altho I am still slightly puzzled by something which I haven't yet today had the opportunity to look at the radio to see. That is: in my pic of my board, as I already mentioned, if you look very closely, it appears as tho it is something like red red orange, but in one of the pics sent to me showing r187, it clearly looks to be a far different value resistor. I can't remember at the moment, but it looked like there was a black and/or green or some kind of dark bands?? As soon as I get a chance I'll take another look at the resistor itself & the 2 apparently conflicting pics to resolve that issue. They sure did look different tho... I'll be able to look on the schematic to see what value it's supposed to be.

By the way, the resistor, as shown I'm my pic, was open & that's what I was trying to find out because a previous mod had it all screwed up, half done, half undone & didn't work. Whoever asked me (ie told me) about the jumper on d35 or 36 (whichever it is, I'm not looking at anything at the moment), I already knew that and had already checked that b4 coming here (it was not jumpered, as it's supposed to be..). And as I already mentioned previously, for those who don't yet know, the zillions of instructions (destructions) splayed all over the internet, for many years, telling ppl to use pin 3 for the constant 8v supply, IT'S WRONG! DON'T DO IT! USE PIN 1, NOT 3. Using pin 3 can be eventually be catastrophic. There are many muds out there that probably just copied someone's original blunder about using pin 3. Don't do it. Always use pin 1.

I just knew I got very frustrated between no replies for around 6 or 7 hrs (according to the time stamps) and then, what seemed to be a series of replies that assumed I needed info on how things work, as opposed to just telling me where to find the resistor. But that, I know now, was complicated by not seeing the picture that pointed to the location, due to all the problems between my phone & the wwdx site software. So the bottom line point is I was complaining but didn't want to insult anyone.

I've been registered here and read stuff here for a long time. I've made a number of otrvious posts as well so not new.

Bottom line is we got thru it due to my perseverance and that if the members that participated & I finally found the resistor. I'm sure I've had to find that resistor several times in the past, as I've been working on radios for a long time & even tho I hadn't had a 142 or Washington (8719) to unlock for quite awhile, I guess I just forgot where the resistor was & it was more hassle than I wanted, to find the board location by using a crappy quality schematics. I thought it would just be alot easier to just ask you guys. Turned out not so easy in the beginning. Oh well, can't win em all, lol.

All I have to do now is straighten out the clarifier pot wires if need be and then do the rest of the work I need to do.

Okay. From the UNbanded end of D35, (the diode that's NOT cut) follow the foil trace from there across the front edge of the circuit board. It should lead you to that resistor, about 2/3 of the way across the front edge of the board.

If what you're trying to do is restore the clarifier to the factory-stock 'unlocked' condition, you'll need to replace the cut diode D36, or stitch across where it was cut.

Handy Andy's picture of the PC-385 pc board should be correct for your 142. The Stalker picture most certainly is not.

Thanks for that. I don't know if you looked at the rest of the posts since yest, but I found the resistor & I reported it here. He asked me to take a pic further to the right from my 1st posted pic, which prompted me to look closer in that area & then I found the resistor, well hidden under a bunch of wires. Later on, I saw the pic he posted that pointed right at it, but the pic didn't display here for me until later.

Thats all I ever needed was the location of the diode because I couldn't spot it. Before I posted here, I was in the midst of using a fuzzy schematic to try to trace down the resistor, but frankly, it was a pain in the ass, so I thought to ask here. What I was doing in the first place was back engi engineering a bad clarifier job. Had to cover the bases to make sure everything was done right so as to wind up w/a good working unlocked clarifier. Previously, some parts were done, some were not & some were done incorrectly. The only thing I couldn't do was find the resistor. As a matter of fact, I forgot I have to go look/see if the resistor is the correct value cuz one of the pics sent to me clearly showed r187 on the board, but the bands on it looked different than my resistor. Possibly, that could've been some bandwidth change attempt? Gonna go look now...

Just checked the schematic and 22k is indeed the orrect value. Now I've got to find that other pic that member sent me to look at his resistor again. It sure didn't look like a 22k. Of course, if his clarifier is unlocked, it doesn't really matter what resistor he has as long as it's open. But I think he might still want to know if it's the wrong resistor.

Allright, 1st off, it was handy Andy who posted the pic I didn't see at 1st, which led me to find r187. I had trouble just now viewing his pic of his radio & r187, because I didn't realize he 1st posted it on pg 1 of thus thread, so as I scrolled back looking for the pic, I came across subsequent repeats of the picture (quotes, I guess..) and I just learned that the resolution on said quotes, is nowhere near the original resolution. So bad, in fact, that the number of the resistor, written on the arrow, looked like "K1X/" and the colors on the resistor were uncipherable. So I kept going back from pg 3 to page 1, where I found the 1st post & pic & there.... the resolution is very goid & I can see his resistor is definitely not a 22k, as I 1st suspected.. Also, didn't look like it was open (locked clarifier?), in which case, why is the wrong resistor in there? I can only see 2 bands, but it doesn't look like red-red-orange.
