Cobra 148 GTL - L44 info?

Hi there,

I have a radio with a corroded and disintegrated L44 RF choke / inductor. (along with several other parts on the board) The service manaul does not have a parts list from what I see. The schematic simply label's L44 as L0096 which doesn't bring anything up in a search. All i could find is that it is a 5 1/2 turn wire round choke, but no info on wire gauge, mH rating, etc. It appears to have a centre tap a well.

Does anybody know the actual ratings on this so I can find a replacement?

This is all I could find in the Sams PhotoFact CB-249 Volume. Don't know if it will help.

This is one that I removed from the board. I don't have the specs on it, but yes, it has three legs.

Thanks for the info guys.
Yes I had found that one listed on Ken's electronics but was hoping I could find the ratings and wind my own, or purchase one new. Anything used will be like 999's image and have the corrosive glue on it slowly eating it away. I'm getting around to restoring 6 of these radios and so far 2 of them have badly corroded chokes.

From what was left of mine, using a caliper it seems to be a OD of 5mm, ID of 2.5mm and thickness of 2mm. The wire gauge seems to be 24-28 AWG with 5 turns doubled up.

I might be wrong but I don't think Ken sells pulls,
As far as I know he has new old stock.
I have bought stuff from him before and it was all new, never used.

I'll update the post once i have created a new toroid. I made an order from Ken's electronics and never heard back or received any confirmation. The website is pretty dated so who know's if its functional anymore.

In the mean time i have some random ferite cores and magnet wire on the way to experiment with.

I have always called, I have not ordered from the web site.

So what did you find out on L44? Similar problem and so removed a good L44 and found the end to end, inductance is around 36 uh and end to center tap is reads 7.6uh to 8 uh. Same readings using a Sencore LC77 and DE-5000. I ordered some T5x3x2 ferrite rings from china (only place I found something close). Will make up a few up and see how they work. Will post when done.

This is an old thread but mikes radio repair on YouTube did a rewind of L124 of an hr2510 radio which looks similar to the 148. Part numbers are not the same though. I did a rewind as per the video for the 2510 and it does work fine. So as long as you keep the turns the same etc.you should be able to do this for this L44 coil. as long as the core you have is intact to allow for rewinding.
