Is this a candidate for capacitor replacement? Had all the right screws int the covers and came with the stock coffin mike and the only issue I could find was a sticky meter. Im not sure of the genesis of the different countries of origins for the 148's , but would I be wrong to assume that Taiwan would be preferable to some of the other countries such as Malaysia or the Phillipines? Or is 6 of one and 1/2 dozen of the other and you get what you get? Im willing to put the time and effort into the project.
Cheers

Sounds like a keeper, some people say that one is better than the other. I think that as long as its a side MIC, it would be worth recapping it. The newer front MIC version, I think most will agree that Cobra dropped the ball on, and I will not even bother with them because there are so many good side MIC radios still in circulation.

It is a side mic model and now I suppose I must try and find some capacitors,,,,All the kits on Flea Bay looked like cheap, no name brand electrolytics. If I could find an assortment of quality Nichicon, or Panisonic etc even if I got many I didnt need I would.
TY for your response

Maybe @543_Dallas has a 148gtl caps list for Mouser and you can order from there.

The caps in the 148 you got from me came from Klondike Mike. I was too lazy to go through that one and order caps. His kit was 100% complete and all name brand stuff. I seem to remember having a couple of extras. Just check the board number and make sure you get the right kit.

Customers have brought in radios and a kit from Mike. I haven't got to the point of buying more than one or two from him. But my labor to "pick" the full list for a particular radio from our stock is labor that goes on the repair bill. Mike's kit comes out looking competitive for the customer if he buys it direct.

Haven't had a problem with Mike's kits yet.
