Cobra 148gtl/2000 mb8719 pin13 channel mod For 41-44

Yup it certainly did that time. Well hell yeah that's one sweet little setup you have there my friend. Love them shiny little birdies for sure making me a bit jealous lol. Well there's a fella that sells what's left of the Expo kits and he's got a nice 5 position rotary switch nicely wired into a ribbon cable that I'm gonna grab and try to throw it into this Chinese 148. I know, I know everyone says that they're crap but honestly I don't mind it. I recapped it and replaced all the resistors to 1/4w cuz I already had a ton of surplus components sitting around. The radio took nicely to the standard reciever upgrade. 12db Sinad @ 111.4 dbm on AM and 12db Sinad @ 126.1dbm on SSB. I was impressed with that. Good audio reports as well so I'm not sold that these Chinese radios suck. With a little tlc they're ok in my book. How did you do the clarifier unlock? 10kc up and down? That's crazy!
I just do it as the instructions say and that's what I have always ended up with when I do a clarifier on a 148. To be fair they are a bit touchy and a 10 turn would make it a lot easier to use, but I never had an issue when I ran a 148 like that.
I have pictures of the mods somewhere if you're interested.

Indeed I would be if you have the spare time to dig them up. Pics are always very helpful for sure. First time muddling my way through a 148 so I'm wide open
to any ideas here. Didn't know if the clarifier mod would make it impossible to tune in ssb. That is my fear with it.

I'll send you the pics in a PM.

Did you do this to a later model (Chinese) or an earlier model like a Philippine or Malaysian made one and does it even matter?

It was on a Malaysian 148 gtl that was very hacked up when I got it. I tried just about every mod I could find on it. I started borrowing parts out of it to fix a cobra 2000 gtl, with the intention of putting them back now it’s a parts radio. I just really don’t like the Malaysian 148’s. But the mod worked fine on it.
