Can't believe I didn't see this post. There is a factory fix for that problem. I don't have the details in front of me, but it invloves soldering a 1uf cap from part of the receive circuit to ground power supply line I think), next to the first RF coils in the receive portion. CB Tricks may have the details of that. Knocks the pops right out.
 
Wow...wish I had known that before I dumped the radio. Took it to an "approved" Cobra repair center and they told me first there was nothing wrong with it. After hearing it on the air, they "retuned" it, which did nothing for the problem, but made the low audio even weaker. Never a mention of a service bulletin. (this was about 2 months ago)

Another shop said that it's impossible to tune this radio up to be loud. I'm not talking screaming...just loud. Your thoughts DTB?
