Cobra 2000 GTL

By the way LC , if you like the Cobra 2000 .... then you probably don't want to hear about the CPI CP2000 (CPI - Communications Power Inc.) radio that I've been trying to track a power cord down for ... right ?? ... lol

You probably already know this, but I'll put it out there anyways for those who don't.

CPI 2000 power cord, Belden "PH163" cable.
Also used in '60s and some '70s vintage HP test equipment, Celestron scopes, and Wurlitzer jukeboxes.

Looks there's one for sale on fleabay right now: https://www.ebay.com/itm/174308852557

Like TM86 said that cable for the PH163 style is the one. Belden/Volex model #17280 or Alpha 543. Belden/Volex model #17952 or Alpha 544 will work also. (The only difference is that they have the hot and neutral wires reversed.) The later built Tram D201 and the D201A used the same cord. They are hard to find and the sellers know that so they are always priced at around $30.00.

I could do the work myself .... I use to buy older dead radios , bring them back to life , and their former glory ... and then sell them . But I haven't done that in a long time , and my eyes aren't as good as they use to be . Not that I don't think I can do it , because wearing my glasses makes a big difference .... and working on solid state & tube equipment isn't nearly as bad as this surface mount stuff is . I considered doing it myself for a minute ... when I saw people selling the Cobra 2000 electrolytic cap kits on ebay .

I used to do a fair amount of solder/repair when it was required at work, and then on equipment at home but I went over ten years w/o touching an iron and got stale. When I began again it was glaringly apparent that between age, eyesight, and less than rock-steady hands that I needed practice. I got out some junkers and just soldered/unsolder components until I fell back into the groove. If you feel rusty, perhaps you could practice on some junkers first before starting on the 2000.(n)

If you decide to give it a go, I'd recommend the EBAY seller Klondike Mike. I've bought several capacitors kits from him and no issues. I heard he has a website now as well but I don't remember what it was (maybe klondikemike?) Good luck whatever you choose!

Thanks Woody , I hadn't thought of that ... that's a great idea .

That style power cord was also an industry standard for any office equipment like typewriters, calculators, or such from the early 60s to the late 70s.

We got in the habit of removing that style socket, punching a new hole and mounting a rectangular IEC socket. Cord can be obtained easily thereafter.
