One missing detail here has to do with the clock's alarm feature. If you turn on the radio with the alarm, you'll smoke that 100-ohm resistor.

That's a new definition of "smoke alarm".

I did Nomad's mod last night and it works as stated.

a couple of notes to add though.

in my switch, there was an orange wire, and a white wire on one side, and a black wire on the other.

the white wire is the one that goes to the main PC board, and the orange wire went to the pushbutton switch PC board for the clock/counter.

I tried leaving the orange wire disconnected so as to avoid the possibility of smoking the resistor, but with the radio off, the counter read 92.2000 instead of 12:00.

replaced the orange wire and clock worked again.

Thanks again Nomad for that mod. Glad it's posted in the forum for future members looking for the cure.

tried your mod still see the channel display dimmed even when radio is powered off via power switch

Try a lower resistor value, like 47 ohms. The 100-ohm value is approximate, not set in stone.

Fair warning, though. If the radio powers up from the alarm feature, this resistor will croak. But that should be its only real hazard.
